Repainting a 16' checkmate.. need help

I am the original owner of a 1989 16' Checkmate. The time has come to repaint the boat. The original paint is now shot, and the bottom is blistered. I want to do a somewhat custom paint job. What is the best product to use? I hear alot of people talk about house of kolors paint. Does this hold up well enough for boats. THe boat stays in the water from May till October. Any help or suggestions are appreciated.

if you are going to leave the boat it the water you will have to use gelcoat on the bottom. after the surface is preped you can mix your gelcoat 50/50 with valspar four guard or durateck there the same stuff. after your boat is complete a used hoist might be a good investment they sell for less than the repair cost of sitting in the water.

I have a lift for my 19' Eliminator Daytona. Its probably a good idea to get one for this boat too, but its kind of just my kick around/ski boat. It took 17 seasons to get it in the condition its in know. I highly dought I will have it for another 17. Is gealcoating difficult? I have never done a project like this before. Where can I get info, or instuctional videos from. Any idea?

Do a "search" for gel coat or fiberglass. You'll probably find and learn a lot more than you want to.

paint is sanding down what is tehre and painting over it. gel coat is takin all the way down to fiberglass, spraying gel, sanding over gel, then buffing it out. takes quite a bit more time, but lasts longer.

You don't have to take it down to the glass to re-gel.

He stated the bottom was blistering, assumption is to remove blistered paint or gel.

Gell needs a GOOD surface to bond to, Otherwise the same thing will happen
