    V8 cost

A friend of mine bought a brand new 85 model Evinrude 275 V8 Limited Edition from Liberator boats in 87 for $7,200.00. In 1989 Liberator quoted $10,300 for an 89 Evinrude Limited Edition. What you paid was fair for a GT or an XP,.... the 275 had smaller carbs and I believe the ports were lower,...it would not run with the GT/XP stock out of the box.

...Bringing an interesting old thread forward...
This was true, on the $4,200. price. For more than 4 years running, that I remember. As many as you wanted, from OMC/Second Effort in Florida, anyone could buy them at this price. They had a huge overproduction of them. But even at that price, to the people that were in the business, there was not a big demand for them. That's why it took a few years to move them.

Yes, all the $4,200.00 motors in question, that they were selling back then, were your choice of an XP or a GT. Something like $100.00 more, for a 25'' and/or a left-hand. Bought a fair number of them for new multi-engine offshore boat builds, but most new boat build customers were going with other outboards sizes, like JohnRude V-6's, the new Yamaha V-6's, but mostly the Mercury V-6's in all they're forms. Ancient history. Those were the days.

The funny thing is, they can be had now for really, really cheap prices when you consider the power (potential) per dollar. Assuming of course the parts scrounging and fuel costs don’t scare you away.

I had good luck with the v4 and v6 loopers.
Not so much with the v8.

I remember the second effort deal, but don’t remember it being that cheap. The V8s we sold all came from second effort because of that. Otherwise the dealer cost was still huge. Here is the real deal, Dealer Cost.
