Yup, they got it right....well right up until the c-clipped it. I prefer front loading differentials, but it's hard to argue the durability of an 8.8 especially if its been beefed up. Those girdle play a huge factor in the strength of a high perf back-door style axle. A good friend once made a career out of destroying GM 12-bolts. The last one he built got a girdle. That was over 7 years ago.
I'm getting ready to build up a little 7.5" Ford rear for a turbo charged 4-cyl. project I'm working on. All of the hardware not related to the centersection is the same as the 8.8. They use the same 28-spline axles that the stock 8.8's used, and there's a factory Trac-loc diff available new or in bone yards.--Brian Chandler--

ford got the rear end right, but the t5 and aod sucked. luckily my lx had a tremec, never had to replace a trans. But i saw many blown up t5s

i've got a t5'd 84 GT that i build in high school out of spare parts we had laying around...runs 6.40s 1/8mile with a 351w heads/cam motor all motor. the t5 is alright if you know how to build it and put the right parts in it.

The T-5's always held up fine for me and my friends and alot of other guys, but there where others that would crash'em in the 13's... I think it depends greatly on how you drive... I've seen them go well into the 10's reliably in a turboed 306, but the launch was soft with no powershifting, just a lot of hp to push with... Another of my buddies actually ran his for years with a stock T-5 1990 LX on a 150 shot, he could run mid 11's all day... He launched at 5,000 and powershifted at 5200 without a failure... He had over 200 timeslips of sub 12.20 E.T's, but I think this is an exception instead of the rule... I and alot of other people could give stories like this all day but the Tremec is a nice box and it puts any doubt aside...

I've got a t5 outta a camaro sitting in the garage I wanna build. Apparently if you got a world calss t5 the were rated for more torque. I think they were only rated to like 300 ft lbs, thats why gm never put them behind a 350.

tremec sells them as "rebuilt" and only rates them to 300ft. lbs. mine sees over 500 rwtq (car was dynoed as driven with 28"x10.5" et drags) all the time
