97 Suburban - Turning off auto headlights

I have a 1997 Chevy 2500 Suburban, which has the headlights that come on automatically when the emergency brake is release.
I get so many complaints early in the morning when it's still dark at the boat launch. My headlight comes on, and blind the next person in line to launch.
Is there a simple way to turn off this automatic options?

just try pushing the e brake in one or two clicks. it works on my 97 silverado.

If so, that is what turns on your headlamps. I'll have to look later today and see if you can just remove it to turn off DRL. Many of those circuits are ground side switched in the later 90 GM vehicles.

DRL=daytime running lamps
PDC=Power Distribution Center (Under Hood Fuse & Relay Box)

On mine you can hit the dome button times to turn them off. The 1 or 2 clicks of the emerg. brake works to.

YEP...use the e-brake...especially when you are on inclines

I also had a '98 Chevy truck with the same complaint... I was told to hit the small round button that was right close to headlight switch several times to get the automatic headlamps to give up, but it never worked... The Black population around here don't like it because they ride in the day with their hi-beams on, and ride at night with the lights off...

If you are electrically inclined, you can permanently defeat this option. Find the two wires that go to the sensor in the middle of the dash (the sensor is the domed lense). Install a 10k ohm resistor (available at Radio Shack) between the two wires. This will make the electronics think it is daylight out. Worked in every GM vehicle I own.

DRL automatically come on when key is turned the function you are over riding is the AUTO SWITCH for NIGHT TIME usage..

1 click on ebrake wont even begin to pull the cables to tighten the brakes and is perfectly safe to use it in that manner no pad contact will be made on the rear brakes and nothing will be effected .. use the ebrake.. or if youre wanting to over ride the system, entirly there is a grounding switch on the E brake that opens when you set the brake.. remove that switch and the lights cant come on Via the DRL relay..
