Talk to Carl "schiadart" on S and F. He pretty much dominates the other single outboard ski-racers with one of my motors on his Bernico. His email is schiadart@yahoo.com

If I can help
Fist of all John is way to nice. "He pretty much dominates the other single outboard ski-racers with one of my motors on his Bernico." John is the one that make the Magic work. I would probaly say that you will have a lot of set up time and there may be a better boat out there for you. I am now doing just fine but every boat they make is different and all take a lot of tweeking. I would try schiada boats if you want something for big water.

I just ran across this thread. Now that I have had some personal experience with these boats, I will have to say "THEY SUCK". They porpose, dont turn, decks blister, unstable, give me time and I can probably come up with some more.

Hey,
They are not that heavy. They just have to be strong because they race with it. The water on the canal is very rough.
They can build a light layup version if you want to!

He never did well at all due to skier issues. Boat its self is good. Engine seems to be okay. But then again, its never been ran hard. Bernico boats, one of the best rough water boats im sure.

Discussion Decorum
This message board is to help each other enhance our boating experiences, not to treat anyone disrespectfully. On this thread, we were asked to give feedback (two years ago) regarding Bernico boats. As the owner of multiple boats including a Bernico, we were simply offering our opinions and trying to help someone out in their decision making process.
This is not the place to be judgmental about others, particularly if you would like to participate in the discussions. It sounds like you may not even own a Bernico since you stated that they seem to be a good rough water boat. As far as being derogatory regarding the engine service provider as well as the ski race team (driver, observer and skier), that was simply uncalled for and not part of the discussion.
John serviced the engine to be reliable and able to run hard as has been documented on film as this boat was the first of the 21 foot boats out of the breakwater at Long Beach for the Catalina Ski Race in 2006. In a ski race, the boat can only go as fast as the skier can handle safely, but this engine has been so dependable that we have not missed any races due to engine failure in the last 3 years since John has been the service provider. Before you make snide comments on someone’s workmanship, in the future remember that you should only comment on services or products that you have first hand experience with.

That's the older model of the 21FT. The older bernico's are quite heavy I believe.

This is the same boat just other colors. It has a 2.5 280. I believe it does +-120km/h.
