    Thumbs up Use toluene

Toluene (lacquer thinner) is the hot setup - will dissolve all varnish. Use with gloves in a well ventilated area. Also VERY flammable.

Alcohol is not great for cleaning carbs. If you don't remove all traces of it, it will corrode the aluminum/zinc parts. A great solvent is body shop "gun wash". Don't know exactly what all is in it, but I worked as a mechanic at a body shop for a while and it was the only solvent we used for any mechanical parts clean up. Leaves an outstanding finish on aluminum parts and it dries without residue. Cheap too.
    WARNING
Very flammable, and a little hard on the hands. Dissolves rubber gloves, and removes paint, even dried up old paint.

    How about CARB CLEANER ?

"Berryman B-12" is the most powerful, nasty blend of carb-cleaning, gum-cutting solvents that I am aware of. Available in the bottle and in the spray can, at Wal-Mart or Murray's.

    Carb Cleaner

For cleaning internal carb passages (the most important part), I use Walmart brand "Super Tech" spray carb cleaner and attach the little red tube. It will rapidily disolve gum and varnish, and evaporates almost instantly. Best of all, it's only 89 cents a can. I always keep 2 or 3 around the garage for odd jobs. Be carefull when spraying in carb passages, as it always comes out somewhere where you least expect it, and safety glasses are a must.
