what is it holding, just a body or two occationally or being used as a bracket to hold the engine in an OB conversion???
if it is just a swim step with boarding ladder $1600 is STEEP meterials isnt that much...and there isnt that much labor building a triangular frame and then finishing the top with what you want to cover wether it be flat aluminum sheet or diamond or what ever.

It is holding me and the kids, the boat is a performance I/O, with thru transom exhaust, just trying to make more family friendly. The price from B-bracket and extreme marine are for tubular full platforms with powder coating. Can I make this on my own or do companies sell parts that I can just have soldered and coated at a local custom shop were I live? thanks vic

swimstep should be around 500 or so and you could install it your self to save the instalation labor.. even a flat step with a down brace is EASY to setup the complicated thiongs start when there needs to be a hunge for the drive to raise up fully, but if the step is mounted high enough there is no need for a hinge. get some 6061 1/2"X 18 wide plate Aluminum and have some slots cut in to it for drainage and to look cool and then get some 6061 3/4" round tubing to build the mounting brackets. weld the brackets to the step and use 3/8" through bolts with backing plates to attache the step to the hull..... JUST AN IDEA
here is another idea, mass produced under $1000
REX MARINE
Billet steps for $995Last edited by npartin; 02-07-2005 at 08:09 PM.
