    STV Insurance Coverage

I was just informed by my insurance carrier- Progressive that the insurance on my STV was being cancelled because maximum speed for the runabout is an unacceptable insurance risk. Please give me the insurance carriers that will insure my STV at a reasonable rate.

    High Perfomance Boat Insurance

I hear ya! Finding coverage for a boat like yours can be difficult.
I'm an insurance broker in Ontario, Canada.
I had a hell of a time finding someone to insure my Mirage Cheetah, but finally found what I needed. They cover boats 100+ mph! No problem.
You need to source out a specialty boat insurer, as I don't belive they operate in the USA. (Premiere Marine Insurance)
I'll ask around tommrow for you at the office. We have a manual that lists most of the major specialty insurers in north america. (Drag/ race car insurance, etc...)
You should try finding sled insurance for a Mach1, it's almost as hard!

Thumbs up High Performance Boat Insurance Info.

I found a company in Florida for you today that specializes in performance Boat Insurance.
I called them for you from the office to inquire if they would cover your boat.
I don't know exactly what you have, or what speeds you can reach in your boat, so I ballparked 90-100mph. They're fine with speeds up to 120mph!!!
BUT, and there's always a but. Your boat & motor must be under a certain age. If your hull exceeds their age limits, you can still get coverage, but only after having a marine survey completed on your boat. (approx the same cost as an automotive appraisal done on your car)
Your driving record is always considered too with a toy like this. As long as it's relatively clean, you're fine.

Performance Marine Associates Insurance Services Inc.
2525 Marina Bay Drive West, Suite 204 Ft Lauderdale, FL 33312
    Phone (954) 583-5558 or TOLL FREE 1-888-FAST-INS

Give them a call. They'll go over a series of questions with you, and process your quote. Easy as that!
Let me know if this works out for you. If not, I may be able to find another option for you.
    Good luck with your search.

dude I am surprised you didnt get canceled sooner.... Progressive canceled me for having a (at the tme) 32 MPH boat... seems if it comes up on a plane it is to fast for them... went to American Family... rates went from 50/month for boat to 32 a year... BUT they dont do anything over 60mph anymore. they used to be unlimited until a few people Totaled a few 70+ mph Bass boats accross this great nation... then they dropped it to 60 mph figuring that highway speed was fast enough.

4-16-2014. 25 years old today... the fishin boat doesnt look to bad for a classic does she

things that were are no longer as they are today...

Safeco is a good one. they have reasonable rates. My mom was a writer for them in the early and mid 1980's in daytona florida. She insured alot of streams and like boats back then. Last year when I checked for my vector (motor mainly), they still do it. 1 thing, if something happens and they find out you had alcohol in your system at that time, they say tough S to your claim and cancel your policy, even if you were not at fault!

    Insurance Problems

The various companies all have their own exclusion lists, that more often than not excludes tunnel hulls.
Hydrostreams, Chargers, Checkmates, etc... As long as it's a mono hull, they are MUCH easier to insure.

Mirages & STVs are getting impossible to insure... Our insurance company wouldn't insure my boat, but has no problem with the Vette, which in my view, would be much more likely being stolen, wrecked or me injuring someone... Oh well...

    Insurance Problems?

What's the reason they gave you?
    Boat too old?
Over powered based on US Coast Guard Plate?
    Poor Driving record?
    WHY?
Till I know why they said no, I don't know where else to look.
Message back more details, and I'll see what i can find for you.

    Smile

Max Speed exceeds underwriting guidelines and most companies do not want to insure tunnel hulls ie Progressive. Markel American gave me a copy of Summerford's test on the boat with a 260 which said it went 109 mph.
