Sea Star Pro Steering Systems! (Rick Racers)

I talked to Barbara at Rick Racers today about a group purchase on the Sea Star Pro Steering Systems. They were selling the Sea Star Pro for $855.00 to Scream and Fly members up to two months ago and then Teleflex increased their prices. They are currently selling the system for $903.00. She told me if I had at least 3 orders we could get them at a group discounted rate of $840.00 shipped to your door. This kit has everything needed for the system including the "Kevlar" Hoses. She also told me that if we were to get more than the three orders, there is a additional potential savings depending upon the total number. Please let me know if anyone is interested.

    Thanks,
    Howard Daenzer

    Tilt Helm?

    Rob,
I'll forward your question on to Barbara and hopefully she will respond. If she doesn't post something soon, I'll give her a call.

    Thanks,

    Hey Guys

The price is based on the HK74XX kit, which is the standard Pro helm, the HC5345 cylinder, XX denotes the Pro Kevlar hose length, and 2 quarts of Sea Star oil. The price is somewhat negotiable (with our supplier) based on volume, so let's get an idea of how many players we've got, and we'll start negotiating.

    The HC5358 fits....

    ....Johnson/Evinrude:
    1998 to Date 40-140 4-stroke
2000 to Date 115 HP Ficht
    2002 to Date 200-225-HP 4-stroke

    Merc/Mariner:
    2002 to Date 225 HP 4-stroke

    Suzuki:
    1998 to Date 40-140 HP4-stroke
    2003 to Date 90 HP 4-stroke

    And Yamaha:
    1997 to Date 80-225 HP 4-stroke
2000 to Date 150-250 HP DI
2002 to Date 300 HP DI

The HK74XX kit does not come with a tilt helm at all. It must be purchased separately. Every once in a while we have talked our supplier into "upgrading" a kit to the tilt helm, or a different cylinder for the additional cost of the difference in helm or cylinder prices, but we definitely can't count on that. I hope this helps clear up the confusion.

I was recently informed that the new HIGH PERF Cylinder is the 6345. The 5345 is the same unit that goes on a bass boat. The 6345 is supposed to handle surface piercing props. Anyway, that's what I put on the Euro.

    Is that right RickRacer???

The price is not confirmed yet

The price is still negotiable based on the number of kits. This link will show the difference in price (at retail) between the two helms: http://rickracers.com/index.php?cPath=124_343_629_830 .

The HC6345 is the "Allison" cylinder

It was developed for better "feel", and tighter steering response.

    Iwould be interested if..

I could get the 5345 cylinder upgraded to the 6345. What would the cost difference be for the kit with an upgraded cylinder?

Also I would need a wiper style trim switch..right?? I have an Allison with the trim on the wheel now (as it came from the facory).

And I would also need a new steering wheel or an adapter for my current Allison wheel..right? Do you sell either or both of these Rick and if so what's the cost?

Is there anything else I would need to complete the installation???

Lots of questions..many thanx for the answers!!

    Bill

The cylinder upgrade is possible as well....

...don't know about the price yet. If you have the original Allison/Merc dual cable system, it's most likely a modified RideGuide, and wouldn't work on the Teleflex system without an adapter. Depending on the wheel, a hub or adapter might be available, but using the trim switches wouldn't connect the same way because the way the wires originally go through steering shaft, which isn't possible with a hydraulic helm. So a different wheel is definitely in order. Teleflex recommends a wheel with "equidistant spokes". The MOMO Ponza wheel from Livorsi is a nice one. I'd post a link, but our site seems to be down at the moment for some reason. Here's a link to that wheel on Livorsi's site: http://www.livorsi.com/catalog/momo.htm .The blinker style ProTrim switch (single, or dual for those vessels with a jackplate) works great as a economical replacement. Most folks with switches on the wheel are loathe to give them up, but once you've used a ProTrim, they get pretty comfortable for a lot of users. Also, relatively new on the market, and a bit more expensive, Livorsi has a wireless trim switch system that can be installed on any wheel capable of acommodating a 5/8" hole in the spokes. It can control up to 8 functions, (I.E. trim up, trim down, jack up, jack down, and 4 others). We will do our best to accomodate any and all interested parties.
