    It floats an inline 6

That is another difference ... the kilo boats (and kneeldown racers) don't actually have to float

On my boat with the 3mm deck I have the braces (there are only 2) marked so I can tell where you can put pressure on it

I am not very familiar with kneel down hydro classes. What length is the fe and how much does it weigh? Which inline 6 did you have on it? What speeds did you see?

    Already here on SnF

It is not quite 13 feet, total weight of this Giles laydown hydro on the water is a little less than my previous hydro (an older Pugh); my crew demanded newer wood, but I doubt this is more than 15 pounds lighter than the Pugh which was 550 pounds as raced. If the Giles was set up for top speed only it would run a little over 100. For circle racing it is set up for 90 mph.

This isn't the boat with 3mm decking. The one with the 3mm decking is wider but shorter and does weigh less.

DaveS has a V-4 set up on an OMC racing lower unit that we could probably swap out with the Merc at about the same weight, so yes it could have floated or at least run with a motor much like the record setter

I didn't have my camera out when I launched it to gauge how well it floated, but it was much better than anyone expected, it actually floats with the transom 3 ~ 3 1/2" out of the water while I'm in it. The Pugh only gave me about 2 inches and was tricky sometimes. If we had a delay between launching and racing I hopped out and sat on the deck in front of the cowl to keep it floating.

    Where-abouts of Starflite III

Excerpt from a 2004 Boat and Motor Dealer Article.

"Starflite Too and Starflite III---both of which I inherited while still at OMC, having built the power heads for the engines that set both records."

“I completed the restoration of this historic boat to its original colors and finish.”

"I moved Starflite III into the Harrison Outboard Museum in Miami, Florida."

"A friend now has Starflite TOO."

I realize that I'm 14 years late for this string, but does anyone know if there are construction plans available for the Starflite IV hull? I've always wanted to build an RC model of this boat. Thanks!

Sadly, I am certain no such plans exist or ever existed.
