5500rpm is fine for a stock motor. If you want more speed try a 3 blade prop, if you dont want to go to a 3blade try a trophy (4blade)

That high 5 is good for a hole shot, but after that it's slowing you down.

    thanks for reply

I had been told that before about the five blade--it seems that the speed is not there [about 60] thanks alot for reply--I guess I will keep five blade for skiing, tubing etc......

I get 7500 with my Merc High Five when I run it out.

I have a lot of gearcase in the water and am not surfacing it.

I used a three blade once and lost a bunch out of the hole and gained only 6 mph on top.

Each setup is different, got to try it out and see.

    PROP

    Hey Mendo

I really feel that I should be running in the mid 70's and am nowhere near it-- my lower unit is a little lower than it should be and I do not have a jackplate--my speedo could be off -next time I will gps it-- its kinda hard to believe that I can get 15 mph more out of it by propping and maybe a jackplate, but do not know--I have 2 other props I guess I will try assuming 5500 rpm is all I should be taching with stock motor--thanks for your input , anything helps
