um, by rendor i mean to make the 3d wireframe become a shaded solid.... in cadkey v21.5 when i go to make an oject with like the shape of a boat shaded it becomes flat... yet when i rotate the 3d wireframe image it looks normal... i hope this can explain it a little better

if cadkey is designed as a 2D program, it is never going to act right with 3d stuff. use solidworks or inventor or PRO-E...

here is a micro water pump about 10 times bigger than it actually is... i designed and machined it for my RC boat... the bolt holes in this are 2-56 threaded

1badstream has a point, cadkey v21.5 is a very bad solids program, it only got better when it became key creator. I use key creator now and it is as good as solidworks, but cadkey for solids wasn't very good.

    thanks

the only reason i would use cadkey is because i have the most experience with it.... how would i start to draw a boat with inventore, i can draw simple shapes and extrude them but i am totally lost when it comes to creating curves and making them solids.

Have you tried 3d Studio Max? I find inventor is too limiting if your trying to make anything like a boat, car, etc. I'm making a 69' Yenko right now and I've only been using the program for 2 years. That reminds me, I gotta get on that jackplate

im not limited by inventor, you just gotta know what buttons to jack off.

10.5... i drew up a jackplate in cadkey, i took the dimensions off my vector, minus the setback.... how far are the hole centers on your motor, it was to dark to measure mine last night...

Don't get me wrong badstream, I used inventor for all the detail components (engine, suspension). But for making the actually body, max works better for me.

Autocad with the mechanical desktop is a very good 3d solid program if you have acess to that. You can do it with "regular" autocad 3d shapes, its just a little harder. No matter what you are gonna have to figure it out what the best/easiest method to get your desired results. I'd start at the transom and try extruding that along a path.
