A heavy rig will like the 3.0 torque better.
If its lighter the 2.5 is your choice.
What your intended use and what type of hull?

As far as I've been told both are great engines, so you won't be disappointed in either way.
I also read here that the 250XS gave 269hp in dyno-tests (i couldn't remember who wrote it), but 2.5XS revs higher.

Like Laker said, it's up to your application and needs of your hull...

i would be putting them on a 28 foot kevlar mono hull , which has been built as light weight, its a big old boat though and requires the extra long shaft, what is the fuel compparison like ?

if you need an XL, then the choice is easy, the 250XS is the only one availble in an XL

I would say that the 250XS is the better motor for your rig anyway
