85 blackmax 150 wont accelerate
motor doesnt wanna accelerate, when i give it gas it doesnt move, it never was like this before... b4 all it took was a little tap on the pedal and it would just rip off... now for some reason... it doesnt go when i give it gas... the carbs are squeaky clean... the engine gives a lot of smoke... i replaced all the hi-perf spark plugs and everything... i had the 'brain' of the motor replaced... it ran almost good for a short period... was still hard to accelerate... and then it didnt accelerate period... what could be wrong?

Brain??
What kind of engine is this?? EFI?? Also what do you mean by will not accelerate?? Will it get up to top speed but just not fast? Will it get up on a plane at all?? Does it even try to rev up? How does it run out of gear can you rev it up then? Have you checked compression?? If compression is good get a DVA meter and a timing gun and go thou the electronics.. Also when was the fuel pump rebuilt? Or check for fuel restriciton in the hose..

First things First
First thing you need to do is do some checks your self. It is to hard for anybody to guess what the problem is with the infor you supplied. when trouble shooting an outboard you must first check compression and spark. This is important info that anybody is going to help you must know. If it is bad then you have found the problem. If this is good then take a fuel sample and see if you have water in the gas. If you have water in the gas fix that. What did the plug you changed look like? What kind of High Performance plugs did you have? Post the numbers. Greg

????????
Now Rex Are you reading the same post I am? Where did you get all that info? Are you a coon-ass mind reader? I know you are the expert on tring to get a 2.ol merc accelarate. TRYING is the big part here.LOL Really could be the stator, Could be the floats, could be a piston, could be a coil, could be divider plate, could be a lot of things need to check compression and spark. compression and spark
compression and spark is good, what i mean by it wont accelerate, is "IT WONT ACCELERATE!" lol.... when u push the pedal all the way down... it doesnt plane... it doesnt go past 25 hundred rpms... it stalls... and the funny part is... everything on the motor is good... it has to be something stupid.... because the motor runs good.... everything is fine... except for the fact that it smokes a good amount

oh yea
it revs up good in neutral... but when u kick it in gear and push the pedal... it doesnt rev... i dont think its the stator because i had it sent out to a mechanic... and he checked everything and replaced the suposedly 'bad' part.... it was still hard to get on plane... and then it just didnt get on plane period... the tricky part with the motor is... it runs FINE when its standing... but it doesnt plane when its in gear. and also... the gas should be good because i had new gas in it last time it didnt plane... its a 6 cylinder.... im not sure... maybe 2.0L...

other things
Try to run off of a 6 gallon gas jug with fresh gas and 50:1 mix.. also get a DVA meter and double check the electronics..

DVA meter
that is why I say get a DVA meter.. That is the tool that you use to test most electrical parts.

Checking Stator
I hope you have a timiing light. Start the motor on the hose and hook the timing light to one of the cylinders. watch the light and flip the throttle advance on the carbs as the motor speeds up if the stator is bad the light will go out. Check all cylinders like this because it can be bad on one side and not both sides. Remove the prop so it doesn't jump into gear while you are working around the motor. If the light goes out and it does it on one full bank of cylinders it is the stator. The light should go out around 2500rpms if the high speed windings are bad in the stator. Greg

I had the exact same issue with a 200. Get up to like 2500-3000 just sit there and plow. I played lets replace the parts. rebuilt carbs, colis, stator. It was the switchbox.

Reeds
It could also be the reeds. Check to see if one is broken or loose.

wont go
your ign system has 4 supply coils
2 for aprox. 2500 rpm & below
2 for aprox 2500 rpm & above
( one for each switch box)
when your motor dies you are probably running on 3 cyls.
You have a bad stator when you replace it be sure to get a good one ( from Rapair ) or merc
