Sad day in history. Mercury pulled the plug on carb & EFI motors today. RIP EFIs
Mercury did not wait until 2006. Faxes went out to the dealers today. Production is stopping on the EFI & carb engines. From now own it looks like 4 stroke, Opti or Verado if you like black.

Idiots
They just killed their stock . They should have let people get used to the idea a little longer. Very bad move IMO.

What do you bet
they will destroy the molds for the blocks and cranks next.
Time to start building a block from scratch. If the snowmobile companies like PSI can do it then anybody can. The sleeves can be easily made and Nik plated. Time to CNC a block from billet. The crank is what generally costs for a die to cast or forge so why not use press together cranks and gun drill them while we are at it?
At $18k for a 280 SS you'd think they'd try a little harder to keep the line available. They could have asked $25k or even $30k and guys would still be standing in line for new 280's. Their stock could have done well instead of where it looks to be heading.Last edited by steve; 11-06-2004 at 08:55 AM.

Yep
$27k is a bargin. You should sit on it til next year Helmut. I guarantee you could name your price on the board and possibly thru the dealers you might know in FLA and NY.

He means now the Merc guys know how the OMC guys have felt for a while with no hi perf support. At least thats what i think he means by seeing the light.
Now think about how these poor 2 stroke dealers are going to feel trying to sell a 600lb motor to a guy with a new Allison or STV or what have you. They'll have to buy a 300 drag or else a used rebuilt performance motor.Last edited by steve; 11-05-2004 at 10:27 PM.

Mercury pulling plug on EFI & carb motors
I can't wait to hear more about this. I want to know what I am going to put on my next Allison and what are guys going to be drag racing if these motors disappear.
