Mercury Racing Future:
I am wondering what people are going to be drag racing when the Merc drag motor goes away? Can anybody provide some insight into the future?

Good question
Look at it this way.You can still buy the drag and even the 280 motors but there is a long wait.I was told by a local manufacture that if you orderd a new 280 or drag you wont get it till march or may of next year due to the panic over this situation. Many dealers are trying to stock up so to speak.Mercury only builds these motors in runs meaning they set up production to build say 15 or 20 at a time.As I understand it Mercury is waiting for parts from outside companys to fill there orders to build these motors with. There overloaded you could say. They will offer parts for these motors for several years to come so rebuilding wont be an issue for several years.Remember that there are a lot of Drag and 280 motors out there. The 260 has not been in production since 1997 or 98 and there are still a ton of these motors out there that can be had.The same goes with the 280 and Drag allthough there werent as many drags built as 280's they will still be available to the average Joe on Scream and Fly and other places for sale used.Hope this answers your question.Rob Lankford

Good point we need to start racing green motors now. In lake racer you can run many different combos, they just add weight to make things fair. But at the present time they have NO green motors in the rules. ODBA rules that is.

I was on Merc site checking out some motors and couldn't find the 225X for 2005 either. Was I blind or is it gone???
