Great post
I was at the atlantic city boat show and was talking to the merc dealer and he was saying that mercury is playing around with different superchargers and boost levels and he believes that the 2 strokes are on there way out soon.

you people (except you greg) have no idea what a verado will do. (twin 275s 22p props on a pre-production proline 29') Propped right to turn 6200-6400 on top, the motor accelerates harder than any 2 stroke out there, just brutal, visceral acceleration, and topped out at 65+. there is no comparing a 2stroke to this boosted beast...
unfortunately, the verado isnt going on anything less than 20' but at [cough] 515lbs [cough] neither is that fat pig e-tec. youd think they could get the e-tec lighter seeing how it is "a simple 2-stroke" can anyone say... HYPE> Stainless steel Merc cowling plates - $110 shipped TYD - LINK <

32 Boston Whaler Outrage:
twin 225 Optimax..
7.4 secs to plane,0-30mph 10.2secs, 43GPH, 46.9mph
twin 250 Optimax..
9.7 secs to plane, 0-30mph 12.5 secs, 50.4GPH, 47.8mph
twin Verado 250..
5.7 secs to plane, 0-30mph 13.6 secs, 58.2GPH, 47.8mph
Like I've said earlier, the Verado appears to hold its own in the "launch department" and top speed...but they do burn the fuel getting there!
(these figures are from Boston Whaler's website and, since they are owned by Brunswick, they test only "their" engines and I would assume they have no hidden agenda to make one motor look better than another...)

I forgot to mention that they also tested that 32 Outrange with twin 275 Verados......
5.7 secs to plane, 0-30mph 13.6 secs, 56.4GPH at top speed of 49.5mph
Weight as tested: 11,450 lbs (alot of that better be gas )

My experience with the Verado left me almost speechless (and that doesn't happen too easily). Very quiet, but incredibly brutal power. This was my ride in Miami. I'm hoping to get some experience with the E-Tec engines this year (BMC did not have any running samples last year).
