I had a 1989 voodoo that I bought from JIm Tucker who lived in Hastings, Canada. (He was licensed to build them.) I run a 70 HP Yamaha on it and she would run 60mph @6000 rpm with a 24" chopper. That boat was a blast to drive!!!!

When my older brother started racing, the first class he ran was E Production. Stock 75HP Evinrude/Johnson on a 13 foot boat. His was a Delta with an Evinrude Hustler 75 (Same as a Johnson Stinger). That boat would run in the low 60s in race form. So, if we would have jacked the motor up and put a bigger prop, it could have run in the upper 60s. The record for the class was a touch over 70.
Then he stepped up to a Vixen (I know....not quite the same as a Voodoo) with a Chrysler 85 on it and that boat would run 70.
That was 25 years ago...man how time flies.
My first boat was a Hauptner/Evinrude combo. The Hauptner was the boat that Howard Pipkorn based the Vixen on - the similarities are uncanny. The boat was beautiful - all wood.Sam Baker
On to the next project....

I have pics of my boat but it wont let me put them on so i beleive that my delta is pushin 60 with a jack plate runnin a 18 pitch chopper 1. however my buddie has a vodoo, and he could only beat me by 1/2 mph when he had a jack plate and 18"chooper, i was on trasome with a 15" alumiun , we both have the same motors too. i'm goin to have to race him with mine set properly now, and i have been told that a delta is a fater hull.

What do u have for a motor on it cause if u have like a 70 snd if u have trim u could put a 23 pitch chopper and run even faster alot faster and if u were ever thinking about selling i could help u out there lol but i heard that the voodoo hull was faster ????confused

Sorry to hijack this thread for a second. Hey Pants “R” Full I see you are new here. I am in Lakefield too. Just on the highway down from Pairs Marine / Jack and Jill corner towards Lakefield. If you know the house beside Horlings Garden Centre which is Mike St. Laurent’s (the one with the big red fence and the dog kennels for sale) my drive way is right across from his. I have the red garage with the tree painted on it. Boat is in the driveway. Where do you live, what boat you diving and where do you boat?

im pretty sure that this topic has been discussed many times before. check the archives before you post and u may find what your looking for. There are alot of duplicate threads on here these days and its taking up alot of bandwidth. Keep gregs costs down by trying not to post duplicates. this issue has been adressed before.

Hi Murph
Small world!!!!
I'm from Buckhorn was raised on Lower Buckhorn Lake and run my boat mostly on that lake. Will also run Clear and Stoney lakes. Took two runs down to Hastings from Peterborough this summer and thats a good ride. We are actually moving in 2 weeks to the 7th line of smith. Not far from you. I have a 1981 Hydrostream V-king thats been totally restored and is powered by a 2004 Merc 200xs ss (sportmaster). We'll have to get together. Believe it or not Mike St. Laurent use to own property next to me at one time---- next to one of the log houses I built.Previously Enjoyed

I keep hearing how fast everyone else's Voo Doo is but I can't make the numbers work. Or maybe I just can't make my Voo Doo work
Prop Calculator
70 Yamaha, 2.33 gears, 24" wheel, 6000 rpm, 60 mph = 0.97 slip factor. A more likely 0.9 = 56 mph
65 Johnson (60 or 70, did 65 exist in 1995?), 2.42 gears, 23" pitch, would need 6900 rpm to go 58. Can a stock 3 cyl OMC turn almost 7000?
60 Merc, 1993, 1.64 gears, 19" pitch, 53 mph, this takes only 5200 rpm
My Voo Doo, 70 Nissan, 1.92 gears, 5800 rpm, 20" Dumbo (old FE race prop), 51 mph at 3/4 throttle and full throttle. I think I'm into a rev limiter.
I keep thinking that the 60 Merc is the best option for Voo Doo speed due to the 1.64 gears. Any other ideas? A worked Yamaha 50? Stingers and 650XS are very old now and would require chopping the transom down.

Hi David
I must say if you can only get 51 mph you have a limiter problem or the wrong prop. That is assuming your motor is in good shape. 15 years ago no one on the lake had a gps so we verified speed through multiple speedos to get close. We even tried running down the shore of the lake so we could get car clocked. I am quite sure my voodoo would turn 60 on a good day and 58 any day. I also think some props act "bigger" than they are pitched. Although not an expert on props I understand there are many variables.Previously Enjoyed

My brother's with a 90yami GPS'd @66mph with a 24" yamaha drag chopper (way too much diameter) with the rev limiter unhooked. All the hulls are so similiar I think most of the difference will come in set-up and driver ability.

I'm sure I'm into the rev limiter as it turns 5800 with one or two people and the 18" chopper or the 20" dumbo.
How do you disable a rev limiter?
