My cheap boat hoist!
Talk about lucking in on this. Some guy down the street at my cottage who used to run MOD VP RR style boats has this old rusty hoist he used to lift these boats out with. Well thats changed and he offers this useless hoist to my friend, who isn't so "picky" as we are so he referred the idea. 10 minutes later this rusty piece of junk is sitting in our back lot. 2 weeks later, after lots of sanding and rust painting and new aircraft cable and refinished pully's we have a fully operational hoist that is as useful as it is cool looking! And this is on a $30 (CAD, which is about $22 US) purchase of new aircraft cable. What do you guys think? I think its awesome, even if its only for a 14 foot Aluminum boat with a 40 HP Mariner, that does 38 MPH, how many flat bottomed boats like ours can you name thaty do speeds like this STOCK.

it took some thought on wether or not i wanted to bring the rusted peice of **** home. but i did it anyways, because as a matter of fact i was thinking on how cool it would be if we had a hoist for the boat, about a week before i picked it up. spent about 2 days grinding and prepping, and about 1 day to paint it. But after it was done, i stood back and looked at it and it was worth it, i mean, you can't really complain that much, the price was right, FREE!! and that boat sitting in that hoist works awsome as well, and by the way, the speed was clocked on GPS, not the speedo.
works great now and it will work great for any other big additions to the family down the road tooLast edited by 350cavi; 08-09-2004 at 10:24 AM.
