Thermostat Question
I have a 1980 Merc 50 hp 4 cyl m. The water pump tell tale hole shows very little water, if any at idle. But when put in gear and accelerating water comes out quickly. My mechanic says the pump is ok, but I could have a faulty thermostat.
I have the original Merc service manual, but can't find a thermostat listed anywhere.
Any help would be appreciated>

How does he know?
The water pump is good? There is NO thermostat. I would try blowing into the pee hole
with an air blower to see if it may be clogged. I would replace the impeller anyway. How long has the impeller been in it? A new one every 2 years minimum. Once a year prefferred.
