Propshafts
On the V8 johnnyrude gearcases 86 thru 95 are the propshafts the same. I had heard that some were 2 piece and some were 1 piece. Is there such a thing as a big prop shaft on the omc like merc has? If I were to replace my existing which part# do I need to go to. Please advise.

I believe you are asking about 1 or 2 piece driveshafts and not prop shafts. 85~92 came with one piece driveshafts and 15 spline 1" prop shafts. To make production easier, OMC started making 2 piece shafts to allow easier changing of shafts after 92. The prop shaft diameter has not changed to my knowledge.22' Revenge Open-Fish with a Johnson 3.6 GT "Monty Edition" V8

The propshafts also changed around 91 or 92 but are one piece. Old style was 1.0" at the start of the taper and the newer ones are 1.06". So use the correct thrust bushing.

And if by two piece you meant inner and outer welded together then I think they all are. But I only work on my own stuff so maybe someone else knows for certain.

One piece vs two piece
There were two types of shafts for V-8s even before the diameter change talked about for all of OMC V-6s.
Second Effort (commonly referrred to as LAST CHANCE) from Lake Placid, FL made a one piece propshaft. Suppose to be better, but maybe B.Gore has an opinion.
All of OMCs propshafts are two piece. That way what sticks out of the lower unit can be stainless while the rest of it is carbon steel. They are friction welded (like driveshafts were before two piece came along). This might not be what you were referring to, but technically they are two pieces, friction welded together. And yes, they do fail. FYI Dan
