Set back...
86 V-King YT.
I'm running 8" setback with a 175 Merc and it just went 80 mph this weekend with a new prop.
Nose cone is even with the pad.
Good luck.
Mac.

Need more info ........
Here is what you need to tell me ...... What hull ( VEE or YT tunnel ) , where is the fuel tank , what is your use for the boat going to be ( speed or all around use ) , your weight , do you carry passengers alot .
These are all factors in setting up a boat to run its best.
Will be glad to help ..

more info
jeff, the hull is a v,into about a 14 inch pad all the way to the transom. tank is in the back. my weight is 320. not intending to be all out racing, but a good hole shot. isometimes race a few friends but i always get my ass kicked.(had a bass rig before) then i bought this hydrostream and i am setting it all up for mostly cruising, but want to be able to finally kick a little ass myself. it is coming along good so far, just want to get setup as close as possible. thanks

OK
Well that being noted you would probably want to be in the 6-7" range. If you are setting it up for mostly cruzzinn with a bit of top end in mind. You being 320 + the addition of a passenger ........ 7" is probably right-on. Your gearcase should have a CLE or a nose cone of some sort on it to really get it up there and keep good water pressure. Remember to rigg or have some one rigg it with all/most of your equipment ( trim pumps , jack pump if required , batterie , fuel pump ... etc etc ) on the port side to add in counteracting your weight.
Time spent doing it right now will only give you more time on the water. Steering , rigging , jackplate height ...... etc ....... etc !!
Jeff
PS .. feel free to ask !!!

Around here,
most of the V-king's use a jackplate with 4-6 inches setback, and a good starting point is to level the propshaft with the drainplug. which also means you need to make sure you have low water pickups. With a good 2.4 on a v-king you should be able to see 80's conservatively if set up right. ~GB
