Without a doubt, you are the gasser historian on Scream and Fly. There are a couple of cars that used to be regulars at Detroit Dragway but I THINK they were from out west. Walt's Puffer was T roadster altered with injected small block. Walt's Puffer II was a Fiat with same motor setup. Seems they were red or orange. Both were show quality. This was back around 1964. Ring any bells??

yeah, you wouldn't believe the story, F"ING CRAZY and SAD. I read about it, NHRA lost a great team with Walt's.Walt's Puffer II, was built by Walt Knoch Sr. driven by Walt Knoch Jr. Fait, but Chrysler powered. The Dad Owned Walt's Auto Parts in Inkster, Michigan. Built in '59 for the nationals, broke the class record @ just under 140. by the end of the year broke 150. won the Nationals in '61. Walt's Puffer II was the A/Altered Fiat Walt's Puffer Too was a A/Roadster both Chrysler powered and in '62 both cars won their classes at the U.S. Nats. With their dominance and popularity AMT released a model of his fiat (which was rereleased recently) The decals had the number 285 on it which was his number (I have the decals, but not the model) . By the '63 Nat's he was running 9.60's but his timeslips were blank, when he asked for his times he was directed to Wally Parks, who told him a division realignment in A/Altered had changed his number to 385, he wanted 285 since he had run it for years and it was on his model, Parks said too bad. Next run his car still read 285, and the lane official was intructed by Parks to have him shut down until he changed his number. Irrate he stormed to the tower to see Parks where he was comfronted by two security gaurds, one apparently took a swing at him, Walt then beat both security gaurds and proceeded to speak to Wally, where now he was met by two Indiana Troopers, who escorted him from the drag strip. Apparently Parks told Walt Sr. he could still run his cars but Walt Jr. couldn't drive them. Walt then got involved in boat racing. Too bad something stupid like that cost the sport a great racing team. If I had or knew how to use a scanner I'd show you a great picture of Walt's fiat after the chopped top. It seems like that car may still be around (restored) not sure though.
