ray's tunnel foil
mike ray's tunnel foil, for you all that got one, did it slow your boat down any. i was thinking of getting one and see if it helped with my porpoising at low speed, plus it is alumium and just plainly looks better than them plastic junkers,, i not that familar with'em , needing one for my 2.4 200

I just got one and it works great for plaining but if you run your motor high it wount cure the porpuse unless you lower the motor and it dosent slow it down. They are made of alumium, If your just looking to cure the porpurs It may or may not help depending on what type of boat your running.

Mikes foil!
Tomoad, I recently purchased one from Mike.He informed me of the correct one to get.The boat comes out of the hole great, and all I have to do is trim the motor in a bit, lower the jack till the plate rides in the water and my poroising problem is gone.It had no affect on top speed.Mike was a pleasure to deal with, honest and no delay in shipping.A few other guys in my club will be contacting him soon. you should NOT have the foil touching water once your on plane.. that is an accident waiting to happen and yes it will lower your speed as your dragging a plate on the top of the water...... dont care if the maker/designer of the plate tells you to, its wrong. these are not meant to stop porpoising, that is not the idea of a foil and could easily cause your lower to suffer a broken cav plate. they are purely for helping with holeshot by keeping the back up and the front down.. .ive only seen 1 set of pics of these plates and can see straight away why they bend up if they are all the same design, its bloody obvious..... only seen the one red one that bent up so maybe not all designed the same ?

it was on this site about the rays foils failing. when you look at it its pretty obvious why it failed.. you have the bolts holing it then it hasa v cut intothe side of it both sides (on just one side of gearcase, this means all the foil going back towards the transom is totally weak and will fold up , then the tear starts..

the yellow lines show where the plate has the v cut's and this makes this a very weak area.
