new boat vs restore
I heard this story last weekend. I may need to try it on my wife one day.
This guy brings his old 17' boat to the repair shop and asks for a quote on a new floor. The repair guy, we'll call him John, tells the customer that he needs a new transom as well as a floor.
This leads to the discussion of a new boat. Then the would be purchaser's wife lays down the law: 'no new boat'.
The purchaser comes up with a plan. He is having a new boat made in the same colors as the old boat. He will try to pass it off as a wonderful paint job.
Did I mention that the new boat will be a 19 footer? The plan is that the wife won't notice 2 more feet of boat. The older offspsring is in on the scam but the 7 year old is not.
If this works, my Voo Doo could use a good paint job...

HAHAAHAHAHAHA, YUP, I know that story REALY REALY well it is my dad's best friend. 17' J-Caft into a 19' J-Craft, his wife still doesn't know and he is getting scared. Someone is going to slip up around her and he is going to get shot. I told him that she would never notice the difference, and that if she questions it, "new" means fixed.

Sweet
I like the idea but I'd be happy to loan him my receipt folder that I've kept for my old, initally inexpesive, old boat.

I always wondered where the saying "good as new" came from...

$20,000 for a paint job? good luck!
That would be one hell of a repair bill to try to explain.

Won't take much to show that the cost of fixing was near the same as the cost of new.
Then bring in the "Thinking of the safety of the Family" angle, I think it can be done.
Hope all had a great weekend!!!mendo
