    new owner

    hi guys
new to here and now own as of today the bristol racing boat talked about in this thread.
I am going to restore it and hopefully get it racing again.
any extra info would be great.
especially any pics of these boats racing. they seemed to win alot of eu classes.
im kinda novice at this can any one tell me what eu du and fu circuits are as they seemed to compete in these.

Gazzer, Well done for rescuing the boat, i'm please it has found a new home. You wouldn't believe how relieved my girlfriend was that someone else bought it!! After a bit of hunting around I found some photos the other day of Sheeza-B, which you can just make out is the name on one of the boats in the Bristol Boats advert. As soon as i can i'll scan it in and post it.

    Hi Gazzer,

The boat already looks better just for sitting on a trailer rather than grass.

EU, DU and FU (don't think they thought the last one through) were all various classes of the day. EU would have been over 700cc and up to a maximum of 850cc.

Would be interesting to know the actual length of the boat, I know they usually measured around 14-15ft for the EU equivalent post 1970's. Don't know if you got to see the old Bristol boats brochure used in the ad on ebay, but I imagine there's some useful spec in it relating to your boat.

Managed to find an odd pic of a similar hull to yours running a Carniti in about 1969/70

Best of luck with the restoration and do keep us up to date with the project.

    Hi Minto
thanks for the info and the great pic its exactly the same as my boat.
yes i did get the brochure ive uploaded it so hopefully you can see and read it too.
i did get a couple of bits which are interesting they are of other bristol boat tests but sadly nothing on the x1v.
so far i get the feeling these were a pretty good boat.
I am hoping to get it running an enter t750 or t850.
i think thats the right catagory, just ordered a copy of rya circuit racing handbook so should learn alittle more.

yep shes 14 ft in length.

Gazzer, Yes i am which was why i was so tempted to buy that boat and pleased that someone has rescued it. I was over at my parents the other day and i found some pictures of bristol monohulls and cats (tunnel boats). The pictures might help you get and idea of the layout and instruments. Are you planning to restore it to original spec? Although i expect you'll have trouble finding a running carniti as i hear they were brilliant when they were going but when they stopped that was it...

    Hi Gazzer,

These days they only run the T850 class, the T750's vanished from the national scene a few years back. I have a friend who located a 20 year old wooden Blufin in Scotland a few years back. He restored it and has been competitive in the national T850 series ever since, just goes to show what you can do in an older boat. There are a few 80's built Bristol hulls that have also rolled back the years and proved competitive right up to 2007.

I have heard stories of one or two others restoring Bristols and even Morellis. Maybe someone should organize a classic (20 years or older) monohull series.

Minto, just out of curiosity would you say the design of monohulls has not moved on significantly or does it just shwo the durability of the designs? Also out of interest what are the main governing rules for the T850 class?
