Prop keeps setting things on fire!!
I picked up this 26" chopper recently. I didn't realize that it is a SMALLL-ear, not a big ear 26" like I need. It has only been run once. "Ah, what the heck, I'll make it look nice. It probably won't run well on my Vegas anyway, so I'll detail it real nice so someone will buy it for their rig.
I was inspired by another post to try some flames. This is my first time doing flames. I sanded this prop down to 400 grit first. I used packaging tape for the mask, cut the shapes out on another surface, then stuck the negative on the prop. I polished in between using a Dremel tool with a 1.5" sewn cloth buffing wheel and Matchless white chrome compound. I rubbed with a little liquid polish before peeling off the tape and re-greasing. I only did one blade. I plan to re-sand it and do it over, then repeat for the rest of the prop. I have to sand the rest of it first.
Once the flames are done, I'll run it, and if it doesn't set things on fire, I'll sell it. Any offers?'89 Hydrostream Vegas XT, '90 Merc 2.4 Bridgeport PCU EFI

You should be...
spending your time trying to find that last 1 mph instead of playing with designs...
BTW, unless you've absolutely exhausted all you options I'd vote for more setup or different prop and do a compression change as a last resort...but that's a different thread.

I was buying a 26" big-ear for running 70-75 with passengers. I accidentally purchased this small-ear. I still want to see how it runs though, before I sell it.
I live in an apartment in Tecumseh, I work in Ann Arbor 5 days, and my parents live on the lake near Onsted. I am only there on Sunday or Monday. My boat hasn't even been uncovered yet. I have a bunch of stuff to do on the boat this spring, (another thread also) but sometimes I get to work early and work on small side-projects, such as my polished aluminum foot throttle mounting rails. I did another blade after work last night, it looks much better than the first.
Sandblasting the surface would look better, the straight 400 sanding marks look shiny outdoors in the sun, maybe I should have sanded round and round instead so it would look duller before doing the flames.'89 Hydrostream Vegas XT, '90 Merc 2.4 Bridgeport PCU EFI

Pyro, you ever tried a small ear on that boat??
Got a friend that has run a vegas for years and won't run anything but small ear choppers.Runs 26's with 2 to1 gears. Boat runs 92 in 1/4 mile rope races with 2.4 ovalport and NOS. Strong runner.

Oh, I plan to run the prop before I dare sell it. It's a real nice prop, only a couple of grain-of-sand size nicks, only was ran a couple of times. Maybe it will set the water on fire after all...

In these latest two pics, I sanded it down to 220, sanding in little random circles instead of straight lines, the matte effect is duller and more consistent this way. It looks just as good as sandblasting, but I kept off of the trailing edges, they are still nice and sharp. The contrast against the mirror-polished flames came out better this way. There's a little "Y" shaped flame of the hub too, it's hard to see in these photos.
