Anyone build their own setback bracket?

Have any of you guys built your own setback brackets? Got any pics? What kind of materials did you use? Thinking about building a 14" setback bracket for a Vegas.

I built my own 8" static setback bracket.

years ago. I use aircraft quality alum channel and 3/4" for the bracing. Punched a bunch of holes in it to lighten it up. Used STN STL hardware and I think it came in at 23# when I was done. A couple more than I hoped for. I have a Bpb's hydro plate bolted to it and use 2" blocks behind that for a total of 16"

Seems like a lot of bolts that could get loose or break?

    Not if you use ........

good quality 1/2" x 13 bolts with lock washers and design it so no extra stress is on the bolts !!!!!!!!! (large enough flat areas to not allow any twisting or flexing) If it's designed right the only thing the bolts have to do is hold it together. I have had that bracket on now for probably 6 years now and nothing has come loose or broken. I have put it through the test in rough water also. There are two cross supports that tie the sides together. Two bolts in the end of each. I think welding would tend to crack and break with the vibrations we send to these things.

Thats really not too bad on the weight for that much setback Balzy. We have done them in 4130 Chrome Moly as well. No photos to post sorry.

I'm thinking about building my own as well.
The aluminum angle seems pretty hard to find around here. Anybody have some large angle kicking around?

I did this one for my 21' Eliminator Daytona

It's purpose was to eliminate the cracking that occurs at the line between the transom and the deck. Mission accomplished.

If you can reduce the bolts you can reduce the weight. Take the number of bolts being planned on and weight them. They add up very quickly

I was giving some thought to making one of these. Adds 4 1/2" of setback without a plate and is really cool looking

I like it! With a little effort and you could have about any setback you wanted.

Ya, and if you look at the front of it, it has slots for adjusting the height of it as well.........very cool.

Or, fab it up, powder coat it black, bolt it on to a Land & Sea hydraulic plate and 8-1/2 to 12" is easy, and will look great.
