laid back bote...
I scratch built this bote after a lugger that worked Shell Offshore, wher I worked for 15 yeerz...this bote iz all wood ,laid over wit glass...it had electric power, motor from a kids "Power Wheels", and 2, 6volt batteries...single screw, 4 blade prop amde it realistic to run...
I would run it across tha tickfaw river to tha Prop Stop, and my bud(tha owner ov tha Prop Stop) woould throw a couple "worm buckets", a specialty drink, on tha deck and I run it back to my camp...had a blast wit this ole tug!!!

1badstream... ever consider running a hopper tank? Ya'know, large tank feeds a smaller one, small one feeds the engine? Really helps that lean in.
Props, the only Prather in the small size is a P220 stainless. The rest are Octuras and their kinda for trading purposes now. Always need to stock up on the Gas props. Most of the ones in the photo are ABC's.

I don't know if this counts and was going to keep it a secret but the picture below will be radio controlled. 18' STV full scale
The RC unit will control the power switches for the dual 12 volt 2.5-4 hp motors in the sponsons. 5 hp system?
no load current 20 A .Stall is 600 A about 300 amps running. 1 battery will give a very limited range but thats all thats needed.
Not sure of speed but hope 5 mph. 1 stick controls both motors with no speed control. Both forward, right forward, right forward left reverse and so on. Not to be added until sure it will work!!
About a 30 lb weight penalty for the whole thing.
For docking and shallows. --and just because.
Working today on the U joints.'90 STV

Something from a different project. Needed a fairly powerful engine and those come in around a grand. Found out a weed eater motor only costs about a C note. Just an option for projects needing more power. A very cheap powerfull light motor that don't have RC price tagged to it.

They handle saltwater just like a regular boat. After a days run, flush the engine & running gear then wipe with WD40. Main thing is to keep the electronics DRY. There's several products on the market that help protect them just in case... AeroPlate & Corrision X are two that come to mind. Take the covers off the servo's/Rx and coat them. As an extra measure, I put my receiver in a balloon then the box is sealed & has a tampon in it. (sounds funny but it works).
Anybody else do things differently?

Techno...
Weedeater prices iz what makes them so attractive to R/C...If ya loaded wit money, and slack on knowlege wit lil motors, then buy a hanson modified Zenoa for ya lil bote...it WILL haul ass!!...IT WILL cost ya in excess of $500!!!.........Those lil G-23's will turn, and they have bearing on both ends ov tha crank...They have modified them for water cool operation, either ya bote haz to be move'in, or with clutch use, U have to have a water pump!!...
Go to Home Depot, buy a Homelite WE for less than $100($120 wit clutch) and take tha motor off...Leeve it air cool, or U kan wrap 1//8th" copper tube'in around cyl, to add water assist coolin...Tha water will only cool when bote iz in motion, but tha fan cool'in will cool both when idle'in and in WO mode...U also can remove tha gasket between tha cyl, and base, and step up tha compression...tha porting iz up to u...a stock 25cc homelite won't run wit a G-23!!...But if ya doctor it, it will git fairly close...But, to git a clutch motor, U will have to step up to tha 30cc engine, and wit sum modifications, WILL run wit a G-23(for a lot less money!!!...Tha one drawback wit homelite iz tha open ended crank!!...But, ALL of tha lil nitro motors have open ended cranks, and they are no strangers to 20,000+ rpm's...
I work at a lawnmower shop sumtimes ta help my buddy during busy times, and when a lil motor passes me,and tha owners don't want to spend any moner to ring it, I usually pick it up for a few bucks...A ring iz a Buck!!, but most people would rather juss buy a new one, rather than put out $45 an hour(min rate) for labor to rebuild a $70 WE...
I reely don't know what your look'in for, but I juss figgered ya mite find a CHEEPO's past experences usefull...good luck, REX

DD- yeah, i figgured by the pics that you were mainly running ouctura props. I was just saying the prather sizes cause i cant for anything remember what ouctura sizes that i run. my best prop was a ouctura round ear, about 3 sizes up from their smallest, that i banged more rake into. that prop would lift the bow of this heavy v-bottom and carry it. it flew nice. Last time i ran the boat before i painted it, i just had to run it at night to test the water pump setup. I got it into some grass, and tried to turn it, couldnt turn it enough and beat the good brass prop to death on the rocks. doh!
