Duratec Gray Primer...Advice???
Hey Gel Guys I gotta question,
I have and older boat with worn out metalflake finish, its worn to the point were all the clear is gone and metal flake has been rubbed out (I think) and turned silver. It's fairly smooth and I was wanting to spray a solid color gel over it. I need to know how to prep the surface before I spray the solid color. If the metal flake isn't an issue I was going to prep the surface with duratec gray primer and the spray the color coats.
So I guess my question is will duratec primer seal and fill the old metal flake and leave a good base for the new gel or do I gotta remove the old Metalflake gel first?

Just a thought but you could spray it with colored flake and color it while glitzing it with one product, kind of.

Called Duratec and they said sand with #80 grit then do a "test" area and see if it sticks! They also recommended paint as the final finish. alot less work and more options.
I'll post anything interesting and the results...

Feather Fill and DuPont URO Prime/filler?
Does Anyone have Experience with these products? The Duratec, Featherfill, And Dupont URO pimer/filler all seem pretty close to the same thing, is this true or am I missing something?

I've used...
Featherfill on Corvettes before. Works good. More or less like really thick primer for block sanding before final paint. The Duratec is designed more for marine applications. I'm not sure of the blister resistance for a boat, esp if it stays in the water a lot. I would stick with the Duratec.
