Sportmaster gear removal ??
I need to know how to get the gears, the shifter shaft, and the prop shaft out of a Sportmaster. I've already got the carrier nut off & the end cap with the seal in it out.

Clamp LU in vise, so driveshaft will be vertical when installed. "Glue" the 18 little rollers into the pinion bearing shell with 2-4-C grease. Slip driveshaft in, holding pinion in your left hand, driveshaft in right hand.
What aluminium sleeve are you talking about? Shift shaft bushing seal assy on 2.5 ltr Sportmaster requires special Merc tool (91-31107T).

sporty is typically not a case for a rookie after rebuilding 100s and 100s of Merc lower units i would call it my least favorite ( i hate em ) good luck there are spacial tools for every aspect of lower unit rebuilding like pinion height tools, forward and reverse gear lash tools , vertical min/max slack in drive shaft and so on a preload tool is required for most operations im with Erik whats the goal here

It's no different setting a sporty up than any other merc lower..even with the dual bearing driveshaft.
