Check out my 350x "Simon" Super Mag

This is just a mock-up block to show some of the parts Eric had put together for me.

Eric just got some of my parts out of the anodizing tank. This is going to be CRAZY!! but reliable!!

It is a 300x with Simon motorsports billet heads with changable combustion chambers, a custom built Brucato SVS system (only two made), 2.5L lightweight flywheel w/ a custom made hub to fit the 3.0L crank, 2.5L stator and trigger. The 3.0L's don't have triggers but Eric has a way to machine off the factory bracket (which is part of the block casting) and bolt on a 2.5 bracket. It will most likely have a Brucato PCU also for easy adjustments.

Eric is putting a V-belt driven anodized alternator on as well. The "X" motors have a serpintine belt that isn't very reliable.

350hp is going to be a conservative figure we're going to announce. As soon as a few more pieces show up, I'll post more photo's along with the dyno readings. I'm sure all you 3.0L fans will be impressed!!!

Sounds pretty cool. What ignition are you going to run? This new PCU....fuel and ignition control...or just fuel?
Now if we could just figure out an adapter to put this on a 2.5 15inch mid and lower......
Great horsepower at lower revs...just needs a diet so it will not stress my 20ft. LaveyCraft with 26inches of setback!!

I hear there are some stern drive lower units made out of high-tech plastic (Volvo maybe?).....now that might be trick...build the entire centerection and lower unit housing out of plastic. Serious weight reduction as well as corrosion resistance.

No extra crap on the powerhead, light flywheel,15" mid, or a standard 3.0 mid, light cowl.

That would be trick on my boat. I've dealt with a few 3.0 litres and I rather like them. Yet, the 2.5 on a similar diet works pretty slick as well.
Time for us "left coasters" to hit the sack.
    Cheers!

I'm pretty sure it will be regular 2.5L ignition stuff like on the 260's. They're alot easier (and cheaper) to get and more reliable than the 3.0L stuff.

This 3.0L stuff is pretty new and there is alot of potential with the basic short block. Eric, Wayne Taylor, & Tony Brucato are pulling some big hp #'s with these motors. The cool thing is you don't have to spin them to the moon to get your hp.

The factory has some weak parts in the 300 & 300X motors. Eric and the guys have found these weakness' and are making adjustments to make them better.

Eric's primary goal on my motor is reliability. That's why he isn't going after 400+hp.(Not to say a 400 hp 3.0L can't reliable) These motors are so simple compared to the smaller ones.

Think about it,........with the 2.4's and 2.5's you have chrome bore, steel bore, & nicasil.
You have forged, cast, one ring, two ring pistons. For rings you have chrome, molly, "gold", etc... Rods: You have top guided, bottom guided, sps bolts, etc. It is so cobbled, I can't see how we keep them all straight.
The 3.0L motors all have the same crank, rods, pistons, rings, and sleeves (steel bore). They're simple!!

My motor will be fully broke-in and run through the gauntlet in the dyno room. It'll have more hoses, wires and probes than some dude getting heart surgery. Everything will be monitered.

With these heads, Eric is going to dyno my motor with all sorts of compression to see what the REAL hp gains are. I think there will be margional gains over 130# but the dyno will tell. Once we know..... you guys will know. This is exciting!! Finally, we 3.0L guys can do some hopping up.
    More to come........... stay tuned!!!

    PM 300 - more power

    Hi!

I have a PM 300 w/SVS Intake and High Flow Reed Plate. Looking for more power.

What kind if gain can be expected with Simons billettheads, and what kind of octane has to be used? Highest octane in Norway is 98 RON. Could this work?

    Cheers, Toffen - Norway

Looks great Ron! I look forward to seeing your progress and feedback so I know exactly what to do to mine when it's time for a freshen up. I'm glad your going after reliability over HP, that would be my choice too.

Thumbs up Ron's shooting the moon!

2.4 Vking, 2.5 Virage, now a 3.0 Skater! What's left? You're hitting the pinnacle of outboard power now with this combo. You're next boat going to be a Zastrow special?
