What's the story on the eight foot, single seat Invaders? I just picked one up and I was wondering what size motor they rated them for.

engine
There used to be a guy in canada on Rice lake back in the 70's running an old inline 6 95hp merc on a 10 footer!!It would pretty much sink in the back if you didn't get on the deck when he stopped! I think it only went in the 50's. There is a guy on this site in Canada now that has a cherry omc sport E motor for sale. Also look for an old merc 650xs. awesome little motor(around 90hp).

Love the old Invaders
I have a 1970 15 foot G.W. Invader.
Power is supplied via a 78 mercury 1500xs and yes it is a J block. I love this boat as my father was the original owner.
I had the bottom(last 3 feet ) straightened,transom rebuilt,
and a custom set back(about 3 inches) on it. Just reringed the motor compression after break in is at130 on all six.
Not sure what top speed is as I have no G.P.S. in it,but boy let me tell ya this thing runs STRONG.Still playing with props, currently running a DAH 26 just about an inch below the pad,I'm spinning about 6200r.p.m's.
That brochure on the tunnel hull is great That is one boat I would love to find.

Here's a shot of the 8' Invader after I finished restoring it for my 9 year old son. We'll be running a '76 6 hp Johnson on it until he gets older and more experienced.
A question for the gurus: I should probably pick up a spare prop. He'll hit something sooner or later. So what should I get? I see 8 x 7, 7 3/4 x 6 1/2 , and 8 1/4 x 8 props are readily available to fit this motor. We're not racing it or getting into any sort of speed record attempt here, but I could really use a clue as to what buy or avoid.
Thanks Screamandfly!Regards,
Craig

GW invader 10'
I'm sorry but over the years, 35yrs we have made every modification to 10' invaders that could be thought of with different hp and modified bottoms with pads and never saw over 46 Mph . Even with Spinelli brothers custom props with 70 hp short mercs . We use GPS and radar guns. Standard pressure speedo's are not accurate. The boat is too flat and wont climb up on a pad, too much wetted surface . This boat needs a V bottom, chines and a pad to get loose. The Princecraft is a much better design , we added a 6 inch wide pad only, and instantly gained 10 Mph, 55 mph and turns on a dime Unlike the Invader that slides straight when the engine is turned all the way to the stops. So anyone claiming 10 ft Invaders do 70 mph is full of $hit, new or old. Chip's Outboard Service

If he's doing 65 Mph then I'm doing 100, .Had a Supervader w/ a 70 Merc Short ,18 pitch Spinelli custom prop. Rpm 5800, 46 MPH that's it ! third hole on tilt , motor jacked 2 inches, 3 gal gas , and 150 pound driver . Too much wetted surface ,wont climb on the pad , Needs a v and chines to assist the pad. But the boats are stable, safe and good looking but. NO GO!
Check your merc Prop calculator 1:83 gear ratio, 5800 rpm, 18 pitch ,equals 54 mph at 0 slip . 46 mph at 10% slip Calculator is dead nuts correct
