Whats a good small business to start up that pays good?
When I lived in Atlanta and came back to my small home town, I could think of alot of good ideas for a small business, that makes good money, (that this area didn't have)
But now its been 14 years since I left, and I want to start up something so I don't have to work for "The Man", and I can't come up with anything.............Any Ideas?
(this is "the lounge" but I am interested in serious answers please)JOHN MASON

Jim,
I do CAD work now, (mechanical) but this is not to big of a city, (town) although there are a couple of larger citys not to far away.
How would I get something like that started?
Should I take arcitectural coarses?
eauto,
I hate working on cars, so I don't know about that, I don't hate working boats/motors, but when would I have time to work on mine??? (it seems like it always needs something)
Thanks for the input, keep um comming!Last edited by WATERWINGS; 11-05-2003 at 03:08 PM.

Check in at the Senior Center and see if there is a way for you to provide individual transportation or other services for folks that no longer can drive. When someone no longer is able to drive, many find themselves in a bind depending on public transportation, or perhaps limited access to their assisted living facilities transportation. Many seniors have the financial means to pay rather well for personalized service. Once you have gained their trust as being reliable you most likely will find that word of mouth will create more demand for your services. I'm not in this business, but both my parents and my wife's mom are constantly in need for transportation to and from doctor's appointments, shopping, etc. They don't like the fact that public transportation doesn't run on THEIR schedule...and they don't like cabs because, quite frankly, they are scared of the folks that drive them!! Just a thought! Hey ya never know, maybe some of these seniors might feel the "need for speed" and you could take them for a joy ride in your boat!!

John, you could always just be a HO, or a drug dealer. Seems to always be a market in that line of work. Just be careful. You could always sell new, and excellent condition used outboard parts on S&F. I am only about $1000 in the hole doing that.

All sound good, I guess being in a smaller town limits some of them, I always keep in mind what my Grandad once said,
"To be sucessful in business, you have to do something that no one else does, or do it better than they do"
I also keep thinking about the 5 acres of land I own right on the creek, right across the street from a public boat ramp, and on a well traveled road.................hmmmmm..............
Gas station that sells beer, fishing supplies, bait, ice food, etc.
Boat storage
Mini storage
But I don't want something that I will have to be tied to 20 hours a day either.

Dig some small ponds on your 5 acres and open a fish farm. The oriental markets will buy just about any kind fish no matter the size. This will be a growing business in the future seeing how our oceans are being depleted so fast!

MXZ,
I thought about that, my brother in law did that and made good money at, now he also owns a seafood store where he sells crabs, shrimp, etc.
Bulldad,
The strip club would be fun, but I don't think the wife would go along with that.JOHN MASON
