    Hydrostream makes paper in ND

This was my father inlaw giving a ride to the reporter in his Valero...
For a change it wasn't a bad report...You know "Those dangerous speedboats" HA HA

    An extra weekend of sun
    By TONY SPILDE, Bismarck Tribune

Ron Bosch punched down the throttle, sending the bow of his speedboat skyward, and for the first time it occurred to you this might not have been the best idea.

He eased her back and the front of the boat slapped down on the Missouri River, then goosed it again and the bow actually blocked out the sun. You put on a brave face. Inside, you thought "Hmm. So this is how I'm going to die."

Bosch planed out his Hydro Stream speedboat, a big smile creeping across his tan face, under his white mustache. You felt your cheeks ripple.

"So, ha ha," you yelled over the engine noise, "how fast are we going?"

    "About 70," Bosch hollered back.

    Gulp.

You told yourself beforehand you wouldn't grab the safety bar to the left of the passenger seat, but as you looked down at your hand the knuckles were already white, clamped onto the handle like a vice grip. Bosch's boat took the waves just south of Fox Island no problem, but the torque and speed were something you'd never felt in a boat before. The surroundings went by so fast it looked like the boats in the James Bond movies, where they show the chase scenes in fast-forward to make it look like they've achieved real speed.

"I like to take it easy," Bosch said. "I don't like to go as fast as some of those other guys."

    Right.

He drove back to the sandbar across from Fox Island, where you can find Bosch and his friends three or four days a week throughout the summer. On Saturdays they get together to race their Hydro Stream boats (up to 110 mph), and on Sundays it's Dog Day. The pooches and the people were there Sunday, a week after Labor Day, soaking up the rays. Sandcastles, horseshoes, a beer or two and some leisurely cruises.

It was a bonus summer weekend in Bismarck, with temperatures climbing to 97 degrees Saturday and Sunday. Boats poured out of the marinas on either side of Expressway Bridge, a lot of horsepower leaving the stables for perhaps the last time this year.

The last for some, anyway. Maybe not the Hydro Stream owners.

"We're die-hard boaters," Shabby Schneider said. "We'll come out no matter the conditions. If the boats don't work and everything else fails, we'll take the canoes out."

Bosch, a truck driver from Bismarck, said the extra dose of sun was still very welcome. The normal high temperature for this time of year is in the middle or upper 70s, about 20 degrees cooler than it was this weekend.

The sun has outdone itself lately, but by Tuesday is expected to slip back to its normal output. High temps then should reach the upper 70s, according to the National Weather Service, and be down to the upper 60s by Thursday.

They are not talking about the Valero.. They are talking about the HST with the 300 GT V8. Ron is just talking about some of the other boats.......

Better size, but you should invest in a decent graphics program that doesn't slaughter the colors like that...

    Thanks for posting the article!
