We are going to Huron this weekend and staying on the Sonic.
Huron is 10 miles straight East of Cedar point and has an awesome marina.
The river is navigable about 4 or 5 miles up river from the marina.
An awesome beach just outside the break wall too.
You can see the amusemnt park from that break wall. (10 freagin miles away!!)

If you guys decide you're into it, the marina will fill up by tonight or tomorrow.

There's a major hotel (can't remember the name but have the # if you want it) right on the river, about a 50 yd walk down the board walk from the marionna if you need aplace to stay.
There is also probably 20 or more hotel/motels between Cedar Point/Sandusky and Huron that could probably set you up.
Remember though, it will be "Labor Day" and busy accordingly so I'd figure it out before heading that direction
