    Hull bottom refinish

I just put my boat up on a crib last weekend, and put a few nasty gouges in the bottom.

It looks like I'm in need of some hull refinishing; around here though the only boat work done is generally seagoing fiberglass tubs -

anyone have any advice on what to look for in a shop; types of resin fiberglass that I should make sure they use - etc

Also, while they are redoing the hull - is there any minor tweeks that can be done to help improve effeciency.

Don't know the shop choice stuff but you can have your hull blueprinted. Make it straight and flat for about 6', depends. And sanded fore to back with 220 grit sandpaper. Both only need to be done on the running surfaces. THe length is only what it runs on.

Also depending on boat it may have a lip or other functional funny on the hull that should be kept.

If it's gouged it might only need gelcoat and not need any glassing at all.

    Thanks for the info...

This is mostly gelcoat work, but there are three gouges showing fiberglass, and one small section with a bit of "fray".

    Nothing has punctured through.

I've gone to two shops so far - one shop told me they use epoxy, not resin. --- and I quote "We don't need to know what kind of resin it is, I just use epoxy - that stuff will stick to anything" I guess he meant polyester resin versus expoxy resin.

This guy showed me a hull they worked on - it was white and rough, kindof looked like they spayed on white colored driveway sealer - and said what do you think - that's good stuff, everyones using it. I whiped my hand across the bubbled looking finished and it was like chalk - my hand was covered in white dust.
