Yet another mystery 260..
Beginning to think the only way I'm gonna get over 7k with this thing is in $$$'s and not revs.
Refuses to turn over 7000. Feels just like my Promax did when it the limiter....Just goes flat.
1994 260 ,A 38 ECU,15' mid, 2 piece exhaust on an Allison XB-03 turning a 26 trophy.
I have checked and verified the following to be good or within spec.
1. Fuel pressure is 38 psi
2. Regulator is working with no leakage, fuel return line unobstructed
3. Injector screens removed and spray pattern is good
4. Fuel filter new
3. New NGK BUZHW (coloration is good)
4. All vacuum orfices clear
5. Reeds new
6. Cylinder leakage 5%
7. Compression is 125 psi + or - a few psi on a Snap On gauge.
8. Cold enrichment is wired correctly (Not to starter)
9. Cleaned all grounding points and battery voltage is good
9.Rectifier passes continuity test
10.Ignition coils ohm out within spec and no cracks
11. Stator checks OK according to the Rapair trouble shooting chart (Although I understand that it may still be bad and check OK with a meter)
I hate throwing parts but....Thinking I'll lob a stator at it and I have been looking to purchase a PCU,SDS or a digital box any way.
I'm open to any other possibilities???

yet another mystery
first have you ever turned this engine over 7000? The 260 does not like trophy props at a;;. get yourself a 22 or 24 chopper and it will wind up to 8000. If it is a drag cut 260 it will not throw any prop over a 24 over 7000, but like I said try a smaller three blade and she will turn on. Just my experience

Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought 260's were Hi-perf motors and therefore bolted to 1pc exhaust adapters at birth. This may be another shot in the dark, but on my 2.4, the 1 pc. adapter has larger exhaust ports than the 2pc I have in the garage. I had plans to port the 2pc if I had to use it. Could you be sitting on the wrong exh adapter and therefore choking off your upper rpm range? I know I haven't seen everything, but I don't think I've ever seen a 2pc exhaust adapter on an SS mid.

Bill...No, never turned over 7000 since I have bolted the powerhead on. I know the powerband and porting is different but my Promax spun it no problem. It seems anemic all over and not just top end. You been hanging around Richied too long.
Shorepounder...My 260 did come with a 1 piece and a 20 mid.Decided for ease of installation to just remove my Promax powerhead and swap em out directly. It had a 2 piece because its a cast motor that utilizes a poppit.
I suppose you could be right about a mismatch and maybe I will throw the 1 piece on and see what happens.
I know Bill from the above post fought this battle in reverse.

260 not turning over 7K
Trophy props SUCK! They make great paperweights though... LOL
Bob you don’t need the New NGK BUZHW .. run the BUHW’s and save yourself a bunch of money.
Oh yeah you better NOT run into me while your running like that.... My little 225 ProMax spins a 26 ET to 7500 right quick. ~( ;XB-2002-CP / Merc 2.5

Not True On Plugs
A-37's and A-38 boxes with internal TPI's will not run without suppressed plugs. I tried it and wasted money on plugs I can never use...the BUHW's. It just smoked sputtered and stalled with my A-38 and A-38.

Whats the dash number
on the boxes? A 1 thru A15. Also do they have a red or black mark on the back of the box?

Not Sure
But I do think there is a black mark on the back of both of them. The A-37 is written in marker...as for the 38..I don't know. Hey you got a 38 psi regulator kicking around that you know for sure is good.
