Yeah If you get on Buckshot racing 77, they show the early models were vertical reed. The parts diagrams show both reed packages as the 225 came with horizontals from the beginning. Most early model v200's were in fact vertical, crank rated hp so prolly closer to 165ish, It moves a 99 astro at 64mph on 26p 4blade stainless and 73mph on a 3blade turbo 14.25 x 24p

I will give it a good look again when it stops tsunami raining here but idk, I was told by a few that older 70s models sometimes didnt have dates or serial numbers on them, maybe it was just serial numbers all thou this big bold stamped 033B 9001 i would assume has to be something because its bold as **** on the lip of the two halves

...original serial number is on the welch plug, on the top of the block, if its still the original block. could be painted over & need to be lightly sanded off, to see it. if the welch plug has no serial number on it, it very well could be a replacement block, either a warranty replacement block when still under warranty back when, or simply a new replacement service block that was replaced in the following couple of years after warranty was up, when that service shortblock was still available. replacement shortblocks were not uncommon, especially on severe duty salt water use motors...

My welch plug if im seeing the right piece is small about the size of a quarter at best. It is just blank metal.

Hey mate, I'm away from my boats for a couple of days but when I get back to them, I'll try to get you some snaps of precisely where the month/year stamps are on this particular family of motors. I have BOTH 2.0/150 and 2.4/200.

EDIT: Well looky here... I had some snaps of the date stamp on my 2.4/200 on my computer so here they are. On the block, just to the right of the upper timing arm and below the flywheel. 11 13 90 in my case. Hopefully this is helpful to you in finding yours:

I have an OG 175 V6 powerhead. The guy I got it from gave me the serial number from the clamp he took it off. But I lost the paper it was on. But I looked it up when I got it. The serial number started with a 4 and it came up as a 1976. The block has no numbers on it. Nothing on the block seams or next to them. It does not even have a welch plug at all.
