    p]lot tube v/s gps

seems too often doing prop testing,my gps goes out. its on,off, calculating, searching, tired of wasting time & fuel, i ordered a old-school tube type speedo, for comparing props its way to go. shows true over the water speed OTW, not over the bottom OTB speed. tired of a wo pass & a blank display. skater18s.

I’ve had a few pitot gauges. They were a lot closer than wrong that’s for sure. GPS can be a pita when you lost signal. Not all antennas are created equal especially gps ones. They don’t like obstruction either

Pitot tubes work OK when the hull stays in the water all the time. The ones in the stock LU's are actually better in rough water.

My Faria Beede GPS speedo has never lost signal. It has an internal antenna. No external antenna gets connected. Only problem is it only goes to 60MPH. I need an upgrade.

I use an autometer marine gps speedo. It’s a nice unit with good features. It can be a little slow to link up but otherwise it’s been great

Only downside to the Pilots if not using the pick up in the LU is drilling that hole for the screws below the waterline. I know there are a lot of good sealers but its just something I hate doing, even for a depth sounder.

I’m with you there. On an aluminum hull I don’t have much issue but on a cored fiberglass hull? No holes. At least the bare minimum possible. On my boat the only hole in the hull below the water line is the drain plug

my pilot speedo, dead on with my gps. a loose wire was causing my intermittent signal, found it plugging in the not needed new speedo.. oh well. haulin the mail today,75 0n both gauges. put 25lbs of sand back in the nose, im ALMOST past the porpoise stage. trophy prop seems best. thinkin 15 more lbs of sand up front & hopefully fly flat wot. the old chrome bore is singing loud. crept past a 28' w/twin racing 350s, i think he was W0.
