In all honesty I will keep an open mind about the demise of 2 strokes , heck OMC didn't want to go belly up. but the part of the tape that criticized Merc for just black listing models and obsoleteing parts with the magical NLA designation on motors that were not even barely off their " Use by Date " truly turns any desire to jump into ownership of a new model to highly unlikely. lets see , we have a V6 wait a inline 6 supercharged wait a V10 wait a supercharged V6 ,,, and all the parts will be readily available in perpetuity , we promise , really we do , this time will be different , we promise . No Thanks

I picked up early that the footage didn't necessarily match up with the narrration in the first one but the inference was rather consistent with current emotions of the typical 80's-90's versions of hot boats.
just specifically what do you think was fabricated by the Boogie machine ( like how I did that boogie man vs machine) cause everybody is supposed to hate AI right ? Like Joe Friday said in Dragnet , "Just the facts Mam"
, or you just pissed you need to change your handle to 4stroked ?
Fun Out

I bled merc for 50 years when most others in my area ran omc.
Not any more.
If I was buying a new engine, it would be Suzuki. Hpdi and bathtub size cowls turned me against Yamaha.

not to mention those 300 V ( whatever they are ) 10's I think even on a 21' Liberator look like Herman Munster sittin in a bathtub from a distance

Here's just a few:
1:56: Incorrect 25 HP (4 stroke, not 2.)
2:55: Air cooled?
2:48: Talking about 2 strokes while showing all 4 strokes
BTW: My Progression is, and will still be, called Too Stroked. But yes, in all truthfulness, I miss the light weight and sound of the old 2.5 / 200 I had. In every other way, my new 250R 4 stroke blows it away though.1992 Progression 22

I miss two strokes but only for one reason. They were easy to work on even if they had to be completely rebuilt. Nothing as simple as a two stroke with carburetors. Magneto or CD ignition easy to maintain or fix. I grew up with them, raced them and made my paycheck working on them for years. But if you want peace of mind in a pleasure boat motor, nothing beats a Yamaha. I have an 11 rear old F50 that has not had any issues....ANY. Very rare that a two stroke will do that. Let's not forget the truth about Mercury's old 50,000 mile endurance record.

Ok Ok Ok ,this 450 sounds like I'm at the track in Daytona listening to a road racer , AWSOME ! but having to beef up the transom to 6" because of the weight , hey , if the big dogs are runnin you gotta get off the porch ! also the light weight would not be alot of work on the weak lower . cost ,,, this kid gets his stuff from his boss , just take a little every week . 5.5 MPG
now it's beginning to make sence , herd of some SOFLA guys tweeking some older 350 verado's to like 420 or something , It was bound to happen , look no further than what happened to street cars and the " tuner " scene , mind boggleing but that COST FACTOR is a dark cloud everpresent hanging overhead . and where do you come up with a 20" mid for a Verado , not to even dream of a 15 .
without further adoo , Enjoy

The best motors ever made are......available today. Motors, boats, and rigging, are far superior. Those who have them understand. Having plenty of different 2 strokes on dozens of boats, then switching to the 300R, now 450R, the next boat 500R, life is far better. We are so lucky Merc is building us products that go this fast right from the crate, under warranty. I used to keep a tool box and parts everytime I went to the ramp. Today I just make sure there's gas in the boat. And no, this stuff is not too expensive. Some just have a budget deficiency......

Jr. this is Beautiful , you emphasize my point perfectly , your next motor will be a 500R mainly because the 450R is no longer in production , furthermore if memory serves there are things on that motor NLA . ( lower unit comes to mind )
most average folks finance a purchase that large for 10-20 yrs , heck even Warren Buffet buys used cars , glad your circumstance allows throwing money around , but hey not much in Wisconsin but cheese curds and farm animals. 300 XS is only 8 yrs old and I'm sure parts are few and far between and thats a very modern motor .
my Truck is a 87 Peterbilt 379 , I like and take comfort in the Fact I can go to any Pete dealer in the country and they will have on their computer in the parts dpt. a microfish with every nut and bolt on my truck with diagrams able to order overnight to me , if not within a reasonable time to get me back on the road , That's Customer Service Brunswick corp ignores . too badmost overnite successes usually take at least 10 years

Having a short stack of money and throwing IT ALL at your boat does not make Merc's planned obsolescence go away.

Lol. Do you think all people who have expensive things are poor or something? The boats we play with are nothing. I think Im poor while spending 5% of my income on lifestyle expenses. You need to upgrade your friend group Greg.
The reason to go to the 500R is because its better than the 450R, not because they discontinued it.
Im just pointing out the glass half full. Merc gives us great products to go fast. NOBODY else does. Funny how people complain to the only manufacturer in the high speed game.
