    Mercury F1 indentification

    We have here an mercury F1 engine we want to know if it is a 2.0 or 2.4 or 2.5 ?
    What year would it be?

    i,m sure Someone can tell here

    Mid and lower are from an OLD 2.0 or 2.4. Powerhead looks like a mix of parts but is likely 2.5L in displacement because it has dowel pins in the heads.

    6 Bolt Vertical Adjustment

    power head could be a 2.0 also.. it looks ta be intact (except oiler delete + heads) fishing motor ph... should be a build date stamp on it and jus maybe a serial number on tha case half..... tha rest is what "largecar" says...

    Hydraulic Up / Down

    Powered hydraulic up / down adjustment came out in the early 90s. There's nothing wrong with a manual system. You just use a socket and crank spinner. Powered hydraulic systems came in handy for testing and rigging but were seldom changed during a race unless the water conditions changed radically or hull handling got really squirrelly. Sometimes you can have all these features (trim, up / down height and selection of props to change) and if you mess with them all at once, you won't be able to figure out a good combination. Your gearcase is a very old style SSM and props that fit that gearcase are getting hard to find.

    ...is that a oiler blockoff plate i see? if so, its a 1983-84 & up block. i don't know anymore these days, its been a long time, lol......

    it is, but '91 or better.. "fat block", wmh's without tha pump but has pump casting are '92/'93 up...

    look at tha area of base of #2 on tha block half.. kinda behind tha bend in tha advance arm... will be a m/d/yr date stamp in 1/8" numbers.. may be hard ta read and/or find but its there...

    one is hard ta find tha other is easy.....
