Not designed to be mixed with fuel. It may emulsify for some time, but it is not designed to suspend evenly like a regular 2 stroke oil. Remember that in an opti it is injected to key points in the engine that need oil...it is not injected into the fuel.

Which oil? Mercury Optimax DFI oil says:
Mercury Optimax DFI 2-Stroke Outboard Oil provides the best protection in all 2-stroke applications. This oil has been formulated to provide industry-leading protection against wear and corrosion. Use of this oil minimizes carbon build-up that can affect your outboard's top speed and acceleration. Additionally, Mercury Optimax/DFI oil helps maintain peak engine performance and reduces smoke.
Mercury Optimax/DFI 2-stroke oil maximizes the performance of Mercury and Mariner OptiMax and DFI engines where reduced oiling rates and higher operating temperatures put increased demands on lubricants. Synthetic additives provide increased lubricity and resistance to scuffing. Additives are combined with a carefully modified base stock blend to create an industry-leading oil.
For all 2-stroke applications, including Mercury and Mariner OptiMax and direct fuel injected (DFI) 2-stroke outboards.

"All two-stroke applications" would include DFI, oil-injedted, pre-mix, ect?

Yes. If you read the entire description with an open mind you will gather that it is designed for DFI specific engines which have very different oiling needs than conventional 2 strokes. Is it better to put dfi oil in your premix motor than no oil at all, YES. In a pinch use it, yes. If you are not desperate in need of oil don't mess with it. That is not what it is designed for; it is very different oil. VERY different.

I've read "on the internet" that it's subject to separate from gas when premixed if it sits for awhile. Who knows?? I've never tested the hypothesis. But, better safe than sorry if it's my engine.

Here is the most dumbed down description right off the QS website. Hell even the OP here answered his own damn question in the title of the thread. DFI OIL.

It's clingy oil, not a dilution oil. Some local bass fisherman will buy it.

When we were introduced to the new DFI oil at Mercury by the engineers, we were cautioned not to recommend to our dealers for use in standard 2 stroke outboards. The concern was that there would be ash build up on the inside of the piston domes and they were concerned the wrist pin bearing would not be properly lubricated. They did not mention anything about pre mix at the time and none of asked. We were led to believe it was for DFI engines only and the preferred choice for DFI engines. Later on we were told it did not mix well with gas in a tank. Yes, I worked for Mercury for many years. Hope this helps.

The new Mercnet has improved parts descriptions for dealers and their employees...some of you out there have found that out already. It is nice for the items that Mercury has paid someone to write descriptions for. That must have been one expensive tast for merc to pay for! And taking pictures of the parts!
Anyway, here is their description for DFI oil:
Direct Injection Engine Oil 858037K01 is recommended for use in DFI Mercury, Mariner, OptiMax outboards and DFI 2-stroke engines. This is a 1 gallon (3.78L) bottle. Provides outstanding wear and corrosion protection to help extend engine life. Minimizes performance-robbing carbon deposits in combustion chamber. Exceeds all outboard engine manufacturer's warranty requirements and recommendations for use in DI applications and can be used in all direct fuel injection outboard engines.
- For direct injection (DI) outboard 2-stroke gasoline engines
- Provides outstanding wear and corrosion protection to help extend engine life
- Reduces exhaust smoke
