Mercury Mobile App for Twin 2001 Mercury 300X Engines!!

I am interested in setting up engines with the Merc Mobile app and viewing both at the same time on my phone. I have two 2001 Mercury 300Xs-OT235755 and OT235681. I have an iPhone 12 Mini with lots of memory. I see that there are two different versions-Part #8M0157078 which is the older version and part #8M0173128. It is my understanding that they mount under the cowl of the engine and you download the app to your phone. If I use one for each engine will the data for both engines show up on the one screen on my phone? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you
    Gary

    From the Android app store:
Mercury Marine’s VesselView Mobile app is free to install.
    • The VesselView Mobile module can be purchased through Mercury Marine dealers or through a link inside the app.
    • The VesselView Mobile module works with SmartCraft® capable engines built since 2003 (40HP and up). One to four engines can be viewed simultaneously.
    • The VesselView Mobile module simply connects to a SmartCraft® connector located either at the helm or on the engine.
    • Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.

That's good info. I think the earlier version-Part #8M0157078 should be compatible with my engines because it has the 10 pin Smartcraft connector but I would like someone to confirm that for me, it would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

I wonder, if you install the app on your phone, if it will give you the correct part for your engines?
The app info says," The VesselView Mobile module can be purchased through Mercury Marine dealers or through a link inside the app."

Are you saying that the #8M0157078 will work on my 2000 300x?
    The 8M0113072 will not work.

I am not sure if either of them will work with our motors but #8M0157078 has the 10 pin Smartcraft plugs in and out, so is what that I was thinking that it might work because #8M0113072 has only one Smartcraft plug and a round connector to go to a Vesselview screen. If I get it figured out I will post it here.
    Thanks

No. No no no no no.
Damn this is gonna be long to type out.
The two part numbers originally in question are kinda the same thing. It doesn't matter about the plugs and no the round connector on 8M0173128 does not go to a vessel view screen, it is a NMEA 2000 plug. 8M0157078 is a Vesselview Mobile interface which is NLA now. It worked with the VesselView app which is obsolete now, as is the VV Mobile interface (reference SOB 24-33). The new replacement interface is called SmartCraft Connect and it works with the Mercury Marine App. There are a couple different versions of that interface depending on where you want to mount the module and how many engines are on the smartcraft buss. Regardless, both engines have to be tied together and programmed to be port and starboard in the ECM otherwise the module won't identify a twin engine setup and the mercury marine app won't show you both engines' data simultaneously. All this to say none of it will work on primitive smartcraft. First gen smartcraft, dumbcraft, whatever you want to call it. 2004 is when real smarcraft came out and you could really get all the engine data. All these links only work on 2004 and up (supposedly, I have never tried it). But I have tried multiple different ways to get G3 (mercury modern diagnostic software that works on the same CAN buss as vesselview and smartcraft connect) to communicate with early smaftcraft engines that used a 2 pin CAN plug and a power adapter and I have not succeeded. G3 and CAN P don't work the same on older smaftcraft (2 pin). The engines that had a 2 pin-10 pin adapter in the engine communicate with G3 but I still don't know if they will work with modern smartcraft interfaces. Mercury says they won't.

Mercury Tech Mercury Mobile App for Twin 2001 Mercury 300X Engines!!

    25two.stroke

Thank you for the very good description of the Smartcraft workings. So if I understand you correctly, what you are telling me is that there is no way to make either of the two items to work with my 2001 engines. That is great to know. I am happy with my gauges that I have in the boat and I usually have the SC1000 monitors on engine temperature when I running the boat anyway. I just thought would helpful to have the other data displayed on my phone.
    Thanks again
    Gary

Sounds like you already have smartcraft in the dash. I did not gather that from the earlier posts. There are two ways to do that on a twin engine boat...totally separate CAN busses for each engine or a link harness to tie the two together. In order for both engines to show up on either of the apps they must have both CAN busses linked. There may be an exception to the 204 and up rule that mercury has, but I have not run into it yet. One thing that may indicate whether or not it will work is by determining the software version of your current gauges. If you have white backed SC1000 gauges it won't work...that is definitely the primitive smartcraft. If you have blue backed smartcraft gauges then there should be a sticker on the back that says the build date and the software version; or the software version may come up on the LCD on key-up after the splash screen. If they are v4.0 and up then I would be inclined to believe that Smartcraft Connect would work. 8m0173696 would be the twin engine module you would need for Smartcraft Connect. If you don't mind using the older VV mobile even though it is obsolete I have a few of the modules still around. They work you just need that different app. A Mercury instructor told me that he "wouldn't be surprised if mercury made the new app reverse compatible with the VV Mobile module but it isn't yet" ... no promises and mercury didn't tell him that, but as a general rule they make new releases reverse compatible. Example: the new G2 DTS controllers.

I have a 01 opti here if I have time I may plug a VV Mobile module in to it and see if works.

Yes the boat was rigged from the factory with one SC1000 gauge for each engine with the a cable from each engine. Here is a photo of the back of the gauges. I can't tell what colour or version they are but I will check them when get the boat out of storage next week.
    Thanks

Oh you got the old system monitor not a sc1000 tach or speedo. Those all are the same color I believe. Those gauges came out with the early smartcraft and are very primitive. They do, however, work with everything to present...so that doesn't really help me figure if a either gateways to the phone will work. But you would have to build a linked CAN P network for either gateway to display twin engine data.
