Something else interesting I found out recently about the USA nickel... It was specifically designed to weigh exactly five grams. And that they thought of that all the way back in 1866 when the USA nickel went into circulation. Way before most of the world went to the metric system. And of course a lot of the USA still isn't metric*. But the USA nickel is and has been for 160 years. LOL.
*Though I will say I came here from Australia to study engineering at University in 1988, and all of the physics, chemistry, and basic engineering classes like statics and dynamics and thermodynamics and such were also taught in metric units. So segments of the USA are plenty versed metric units. It just has not become widespread.

And 80 quarters weighs 1pound exactly. (16.0002 oz.)
All American bills are also exactly 6 inches long.
Not metric I know. But still interesting facts about money.Last edited by skialot2; 03-21-2025 at 12:30 AM.
