If they can lighten it up and give it some new gear ratio, it'd be good to have some competition in that market.

This has been talked about on other sites; If Honda decides that they want to pursue the performance segment, they 100% have the full capability and resources to do it. I can't imagine that they would make that type of capital investment to chase such a small market segment but who knows. If we see them offering to get into Superstock racing for a test bed then we will know they are for real. Honda has a net worth of 50B Vs. Brunswick at 5B.

Its a joint deal between Honda and McLaren Engineering. It's not clear to me if Honda sub contracted McLaren to tweak their 250 to 300 HP or if McLaren wanted into the high performance outboard business and approached Honda. Interestingly, this McLaren is separate from the car/race company and is owned by a Canadian auto parts company.

The gearbox is 2:1 and seems to lack low water pick ups.

    • Enhanced top end power and mid-range torque
    • Superb fuel efficiency, with 3.5+ MPG at cruise, 90 octane
    • Improved HP to weight ratio
    • Outstanding durability, quality, and reliability

The all-new McLaren Performance M300 engine is based on the existing high-power Honda BF250 marine platform.
Using its precision engineering technology expertise, McLaren Engineering is performance-tuning base models of the BF250 to create the M300.
    • new camshaft (valve timing, high lift)
    • new Engine Control Unit (ECU) that controls protection and boosts efficiencies (IG mapping, Knock Control)
    • new fuel injectors (higher fuel supply, excellent fuel efficiency)

The result? Performance-inspired outboards idea for boats in the 24 ft and higher segment.

Surely one of the manufacturers can make a sub 450lb V6 for us small boat guys. We don't all have 30+ foot boats that we need multiple 500 hp engines for. Just a 450lb 225 would make me happy

If they could make different gearcase with low water pickups and different gear ratios that could handle the torque and make parts available to rebuild the cases instead of only offering complete gear cases.

Now I understand the initial enthusiasm... seeing "McLaren" involved; only to find out this McLaren is basically a construction company.

469 lbs "dry" weight. I want something less than 450lbs fully rigged, oiled, all cowls mounted. Not some skimped down artificial weight just so an advertising brochure can say how "lightweight " it is

I’ll call bull**** on the pic w/them on the Skater.

IMO, for corporate to approve a race/Hi Perf division it should be written off as marketing, not a profit generating segment of corporate.

If they at confused, I can be bought.

I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.

I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

That whole picture looks generated to me.

I've been looking for a wrecked/sunk/otherwise 200/250 mercury or yamaha to take apart and start throwing sh*t in the bin and having fun, merc has the apx frame and don't tell me they can't put together a 250 15 inch motor with the old 3 liter sporty that actually goes through the water and weigh in a useful range. Problem is they would stick a 50k price tag on it.

So if you want it, our going to have to do it your damn self. There is nothing under the hood of these new motors that we haven't been driving down the road for the past 25 years.
