Outboard(PRO) , MOD and Stock Nationals winners

Hello all , this is my first post om Scream and Fly. I mainly follow the PRO(USTS) class but also the stock and MODs. I collect alot of racing history and enjoy posting it for all to see and discuss. I have been active on other racing sites as well as staring here. I hope you like what I do and don't be afraid to comment. So, for my first, here are the Outboard (PRO), mod and stock national results from 1972. !972 was also the first ever Mod Nationals as the MOD category was approved for APBA competition in the Spring of 1972.

I wasn't quite born yet at the time of your race results, but find it interesting that you show pics of pickelfork boats. Do you know when most racers moved away from the shovel nose design?

The picture of those hydros were not from 1972 , just a page from a program. As best to my knowledge , they came about in the late 60's.

Saw a few names in there I recognized. I raced against Billy Hulgan in SE class at the 73 Nationals in Eufala. I think Billy was also a Fire Fighter. Bill Giles was from my original home town in Massachusetts. I knew exactly where he lived but never met him. I also got to see Stover Hire run a B runnabout a couple of times. He was the best I ever saw in one of those little boats.

1972 was the end of the road for Outboard(Alky) racing in NOA, While NOA lived on for a while with other classes, the once mighty Alky classes were gone. The late 60's were maybe the high point with 400+ entries at NOA Nationals. I once asked a bunch of racers from that era which provided better racing NOA or APBA and it was pretty much a 50\50 split. Perhaps the most dominant performance at a NOA Nationals was 1970 when Bill Seebold won 6 Championships while driving for Marshall Grant.

Since I brought of 1970, here are the results for 1970. Despite my best effort's I can't find the Mod Nationals results.

Let's jump forward a couple years - 1982. Looks like the Sunday weather at Wakefield was a bit inhospitable as the second day of racing was cancelled. Meanwhile at the PRO Nationals in Bakersfield California, Jerry Kirts had quite the week winning 350 , 500 and 700 CCH classes.
