if all trade between America and Canada ceased tomorrow? Canada would be devastated beyond repair while America would not. Devastation for both yes absolutely agreed but in terms of sheer gdp? It’s not even close. A blip in percentage. But that’s just a hypothetical it’s not a smart
idea in any way shape or form I’m against Tariffs it’s a stupid idea imo as I said. I want free market choices and if I want to buy any legal product from any country legally that’s what I want. I don’t want government in the middle it never goes well when the government dictates who can or can’t buy things. What’s the difference between a capitalist and a commie? Governments choose what you can or can’t buy if you’re a commie. That’s why I can’t believe this tariff crap is happening to Canada? Tell Canada what you want in clear and straight forward terms and let’s all get on with it. Good neighbors
are crucial to a good life. I don’t want to live in house built into mini armed compounds like South Africa has. Who does??? Freedom. Liberty. Free and open markets with all law abiding western nations. Cut the commies out of it let them fail. let’s go!!!

Again, I agree with it all except the dependency. After 16 years as an institutional equity trader free markets and free trade will find the path of least resistance. Resources have a global market, consumption with little substance isn’t a viable path.

I just checked again and Shapiro has loaded up another version of what he had earlier. It’s not as strong or good but it’s basically a similar take to how I see it. He speaks to why he believes this is in America’s best interest and explains his reasons. Seems sensible. It also seems to me like this whole tariff thing is some side show bob deal. Did you watch that South Park clip above? Canada? Seriously the bad guys for selling America good stuff at low prices??? What on earth is wrong with you people. — Ontario’s premier, the leader of Canada’s most populous province, announced that effective Monday it is charging 25% more for electricity to 1.5 million Americans in response to U.S. President Donald Trump’s trade war.

Ontario provides electricity to Minnesota, New York and Michigan.

“I will not hesitate to increase this charge. If the United State escalates, I will not hesitate to shut the electricity off completely,” Ontario Premier Doug Ford said at a news conference in Toronto.

“Believe me when I say I do not want to do this. I feel terrible for the American people who didn’t start this trade war. It’s one person who is responsible, it’s President Trump.”

Ford said Ontario’s tariff would remain in place despite the one-month reprieve from Trump, noting a one-month pause means nothing but more uncertainty. Quebec is also considering taking similar measures with electricity exports to the U.S.

It’s going to be a bumpy ride for the planet and a DEEP recession is well on its way unless the course rapidly changes.

I wouldn't want to bet on that. US aluminum and steel refineries are running at 50-55% capacity because they can't compete with cheap Canadian power... that's about to change. We also have plenty of timber and oil that's been off-limits for decades (we apparently preferred wildfires to "exploitation", but that's over now) so we've been buying from Canada.

Once we resume consuming domestic resources... we stop paying tariffs on imports. I think we're gonna be fine.
