It's Coming, little by little
All we need is some of that new battery tech, I would only be interested in use on Tender.

The "big" one is 8hp... that's pretty hard to get excited about.

How is you live on a boat plan coming? Is cruiser boat insurance reasonable? Do you move the boat before a hurricane or leave it in place and hope?

They also sell a 335hp electric motor for inboard applications, I wonder how much juice it takes to run ?
Because I'm looking at a marine 12,500 K generator that uses a 3 cly Yanmar diesel, it sips fuel, just like the Chevy Volt
Mercury has a good idea with the small motors, I'm going to the Miami show next month, and I'm sure new chit will be displayed.
As for dream boat Jimmy, Diesels with large props are the only way,I'm driving to Palatka Fl next week to look at a 55 ft with Yanmar 440hp motors
In the design boat I want Cummins is hard to find, everything is over $200,000. and I want a 50,000 lb lift
I rather spend money on a boat house lift. The St Johns river in the Palatka area is a good place to be during hurricanes,
No Idea about insurance, but I'll take whatever courses I need to reduce, Insurance in the NE of Florida is cheaper than the southern area
I believe the wind code is 110 mph east of the John's River and 120mph west, in South Florida where I live it's 180 mph.

I think electric power for high performance boats could really be interesting, but as we all know, the common demonimator here is the battery technology. I think there needs to be major advancements in battery technology for electric marine power to become even close to mainstream. Isn't the solid-state battery tech supposed to have high expectations for that? I know Toyota was really pushing development there.

From my fellow nerd camp the real world on the solid state deal is maybe 10-20% better with some more hurdles yet in the way. Power storage will be kick off for electric to go big some day, it will happen but not for a bit yet.
