    If its a Mercury motor;
    1. Yes, but will most likely need rigging kits
    2. Depends on motor. If Mechancial motor, no, but you will want the dealer to check calibration of TPS. If DTS motor, dealer is required to calibrate up front.

    Initial startup should be done by the dealer. Merc is always coming up with new tips and procedures for their new motors, and some of that info may take a bit of time before it reaches the consumer's ears. They may know things that the common man may not. Not saying this to discourage anyone from doing it themselves, but its just the reality. Shops do it every day and see it everyday...and hopefully look at mercnet every day to see what new nonsense mercury is coming up with. All new motors come with a "rigging kit" that has items like the front bezel and maybe battery cables, mounting bolts, fuel connectors, clean power harness, ingress grommet etc...not every motor comes with the same items and not every "rigging kit" is totally inclusive.

    Not sure about your local dealer, but I (and I would assume most) will do a brief courtesy inspection of the installation after you put the motor on and before you take it out. Just to make sure you got everything adjusted right, fuel lines correct and not kinked/chafing, battery cables tight and routed correctly...last thing I want to see is someone screw up a new motor they just bought from me.

    Don't forget about the warranty part of the transaction if not installed or 2nd checked by a authorized dealer.

    Lately mercury has not been really trippin on that. Digital motors they probably would, but with so many online dealers and dealers selling motors and shipping them outside their area its hard for mercury to keep track. Once its registered it has warranty. And once a dealer sells it they want to register it so they get the credit for the sale...so they don't really care who puts it on as long as they get to register it. I know mercury is going to crack down on that stuff, but they haven't yet. Warranty is evaluated case-by-case, so unless the issue had to do directly with improper installation by a consumer that the dealer didn't catch it will be covered.

    In the 80's Yamaha engines came with everything to rig including propeller. Yamaha may have reimbursed dealers for control cables. Control box, your choice of side mount or binnacle. Gauges, wiring harness, ignition panel, oil reservoir all included.
    Today's world you can add at least 3K to the engine cost to make it run.
    The last Etec and Mercury I rigged for customers needed to be taken to the dealer for warranty registration and initial startup.
